Brittany Cartwright initiates divorce from Jax Taylor after five years of marriage
Following a seven-month period of separation, Brittany Cartwright has officially decided to end her five-year marriage to fellow “Vanderpump Rules” and “The Valley” star, Jax Taylor.
As per a court document reviewed by YSL News, 35-year-old Cartwright filed for divorce on Tuesday in the Los Angeles Superior Court from 45-year-old Taylor, whose real name is Jason Michael Cauchi.
A representative for the couple opted not to comment on the situation.
The couple has a 3-year-old son named Cruz. Cartwright has sought both legal and physical custody of Cruz, while requesting that Taylor be allowed visitation rights.
The basis for the divorce, according to Cartwright, is “irreconcilable differences,” and she has requested that the court deny spousal support to both parties.
Additionally, Cartwright requested that the judge decide on the ownership of assets and property acquired “by gift or inheritance” and “before marriage or after the separation date,” which she wants to be designated as hers. An extensive list detailing the division of their belongings will be provided separately.
Cartwright revealed their separation on their podcast “When Reality Hits” in February, shortly after the filing date of January 24 listed in her documents.
“Jax and I are taking some time apart, and I have decided to move into a different home for my mental health,” Cartwright shared in the podcast episode. “Every marriage has its challenges, and this past year has been particularly difficult for me.”
Expressing that the situation was “still very tough to discuss,” Cartwright mentioned, “I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
“I’m unsure of what the future holds, but my priority right now is to be an amazing mom to Cruz,” she added.
News of their separation broke just a month before the debut of their latest television project, the “Vanderpump” spin-off series “The Valley,” which also features Kristen Doute, Luke Broderick, Danny and Nia Booko, Janet and Jason Caperna, and Jesse and Michelle Lally.
