Bronny James to play his inaugural G League road game
On Thursday, Bronny James is set to make his debut in a road game for the G League when the South Bay Lakers face off against the Valley Suns in Tempe, Arizona, according to a source close to the situation who spoke with YSL News Sports.
The source chose to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to disclose the team’s plans for the rookie guard.
Initially, it was reported that James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James, would not participate in G League road games. However, both the Lakers and Bronny decided to keep his options open, leading to the decision to have him play in certain G League road games.
This season, Bronny has appeared in three G League games, averaging 8.7 points with a shooting percentage of 29.4%, alongside 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks while playing for South Bay. In his latest G League game on Saturday, he scored 16 points. He has also played in seven games for the Lakers, moving between the NBA and G League to further his development.
Bronny was selected as the No. 55 pick in the second round of the 2024 draft. His stock was on the rise before he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest just before his freshman year started at Southern California in July 2023.
This season, LeBron and Bronny made history as the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously.
ESPN was the first to report Bronny’s participation in a G League road game.
