Cleveland Browns Rookie DT Mike Hall Jr. Arrested After Alleged Domestic Violence Incident
Mike Hall Jr., a rookie defensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns, was taken into custody by Avon Police early Tuesday following a domestic dispute Monday night, during which he allegedly threatened his fiancée with a firearm, as confirmed by a representative from the Avon Police Department to YSL News Network and the Beacon Journal.
As of 10:45 a.m., Hall was undergoing the booking process. A police spokesperson indicated he would soon be brought before the Avon Lake Municipal Court for arraignment.
The Browns released a statement acknowledging the situation and indicated that they were in the process of gathering more details.
According to police reports, Lorain County 911 dispatched Avon police to a residence around 10:01 p.m. on Monday, stating that assistance was required. However, the call was abruptly disconnected. Upon calling back, police spoke to a woman at the home, believed to be Hall’s child’s mother, who reported that Hall had “pushed her daughter (name redacted) and struck her with a baby bottle.”
The report indicated that Hall had left the location in a Dodge TRX and was likely heading to the Residence Inn in Middleburg Heights.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from an argument earlier in the day regarding the “financial needs” of Hall’s fiancée’s daughter, who is not Hall’s biological child. Tensions escalated when she refused to unlock her phone for Hall to view messages exchanged between her and the child’s biological father.
The report detailed that Hall began yelling at (name redacted) and using profanities, which she described as “insane.” He allegedly went back and forth between the kitchen and their bedroom, gathering her belongings and throwing them outside while insisting that she leave.
He reportedly attempted to physically push her toward the front door. When she sat against the door to resist being pushed outside, Hall “grabbed (name redacted) by the feet and dragged her on her back across the porch and down to the end of the driveway,” causing scrapes to her arms from the concrete.
Once back inside, Hall allegedly resumed his verbal assault. As she fled to a bedroom, he chased her and shoved her into the door, damaging the door frame in the process.
The report states that Hall continued to throw the daughter’s belongings outside and reiterated his threat, “forcibly pushing her up the stairs to their bedroom,” where, out of frustration, he punched a hole in the bedroom door while she took refuge in the closet.
The situation intensified when Hall “retrieved one of his two handguns,” specifically identified as either a “.40 caliber Glock 23 or a 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P Shield.”
He allegedly pressed the gun against her temple and threatened, “I will (expletive) end it all. I don’t care.”
The two women managed to escape outside and contacted the police. Afterward, Hall reportedly “locked the women out of the house and fled the scene in his vehicle.”
Upon arrival, responding officers noted signs of a physical altercation, including a damaged door frame and a hole in a door. Two handguns, identified as “a Glock and a Smith & Wesson,” were found on a mattress in the game room.
Mike Hall Jr., who celebrated his 21st birthday on June 13, was the first pick for the Browns in the NFL draft this past April. He was selected in the second round as the 54th overall pick.
Due to injuries affecting the Browns’ defensive line, Hall had an opportunity for more playing time during training camp than many expected. He participated in 29 snaps in the Browns’ preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, accounting for 45% of the team’s defensive plays, while achieving one assisted tackle.
