Bruce Springsteen Commends Jeremy Allen White’s Performance in Biopic: ‘A Terrific Job’
Bruce Springsteen rose to prominence with the hit song “Born in the U.S.A.” and now believes that Jeremy Allen White is the perfect choice to depict him in an upcoming biopic.
White will take on the role of Springsteen in the movie titled “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” and the iconic rock artist shared his thoughts about the film during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio.
“He sings beautifully. He really does,” remarked Springsteen to SiriusXM host Jim Rotolo regarding the Emmy-winning actor known for “The Bear.” This comment comes from an 11-minute interview recorded on December 20, released in a clip on Thursday. Springsteen noted that watching someone else portray him felt “a little bit” strange initially, but added that “you get over that pretty quick.”
He continued by saying, “Jeremy is such a fantastic actor that you simply get absorbed in it,” expressing confidence that White offers an interpretation of him that fans will resonate with. Springsteen declared, “He’s done a great job, and it’s been a lot of fun for me.”
Springsteen further shared, “I’ve enjoyed being on set whenever I can make it.”
The film explores the creation of Springsteen’s 1982 album “Nebraska” and is based on Warren Zanes’ 2024 book, “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.”
The “Nebraska” album was recorded using demos Springsteen laid down on a Teac 4-track recorder at his home in Colts Neck. Originally, the plan was to release these tracks with the E Street Band, but it was decided to keep them as they were. The album has since gained legendary status and is credited with launching the lo-fi indie rock trend.
Jeremy Strong is also set to portray Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, while Johnny Cannizzaro will take on the role of Springsteen’s old friend and E Street Band guitarist, Steven Van Zandt.
‘Previously Unreleased’ Bruce Springsteen Music Set to Debut in 2025
A press release dated December 18 from Springsteen’s team revealed that fans can expect new music this year: “Upcoming 2025 releases will reflect on Springsteen’s illustrious recording history, featuring never-before-released tracks.”
The announcement also mentioned Springsteen’s return to Europe, where he will perform 16 shows across six countries with The E Street Band. He will also continue his role in the biopic “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” which is currently filming on the Jersey Shore with Jeremy Allen White playing Springsteen.
Latest Updates on ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’
Springsteen was reportedly present during the filming of the biopic in New Jersey.
In November, he was captured on set at John’s Midtown Tavern in Bayonne, New Jersey, and in a nearby parking lot transformed to replicate a used car dealership from the late ’70s and early ’80s. Photographs show Springsteen embracing White and interacting with director Scott Cooper.
In August, Springsteen was seen dining at Talula’s pizza restaurant with Cooper and several members of the crew.
Recent photos from October released by 20th Century Studios show White transforming from his character in “The Bear” to “The Boss,” featuring a rock ‘n’ roll makeover.
In this new look, White is nearly unrecognizable as he embodies the New Jersey rocker, sporting a red and blue flannel shirt paired with a dark jacket. His signature blonde hair has been dyed dark brown as he poses thoughtfully with his hands in his pockets.
