Highlights from Army vs. Temple: Bryson Daily’s standout performance

In week 4 of the 2024 college football season, fans are in for an exciting matchup as the unbeaten Army Black Knights face off against the Temple Owls in a game this Thursday night that’s not to be missed.

The Black Knights come into this game boasting a perfect 3-0 record. In their last game, quarterback Bryson Daily propelled Army to a decisive 37-14 victory over the Rice Owls. Daily threw for 107 yards on six completions and earned two passing touchdowns. He also shone on the ground, rushing for 145 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

On the other hand, despite a challenging season with a 1-3 record, the Temple Owls should not be overlooked. They achieved their first win of the season in Week 4, overpowering the Utah State Aggies 45-29. Quarterback Evan Simon had an outstanding day, completing 17 of 27 passes for 271 yards and five touchdowns, demonstrating his adaptability on the field.

After their strong Week 4 showing, the Temple Owls are eager to challenge the Black Knights. If they can keep this positive momentum, they may very well hand Army its first loss of the season.

Stay tuned for live updates on all the exciting moments from the Week 5 clash between Army and Temple.

Army keeps its undefeated streak

Quarterback Bryson Daily leads the Army team to victory over Temple, keeping their unbeaten record intact. Daily was especially effective on the ground, rushing for 152 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. He completed two out of six passing attempts for 54 yards.

Running back Kayne Udoh also made significant contributions with 14 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown, while the Black Knights’ defense stood strong with seven sacks and an interception.

Bryson Daily scores once again

Army’s quarterback keeps excelling, adding his third rushing touchdown against Temple during the game.

Daily’s 12-yard touchdown run, followed by Gronotte’s successful extra-point conversion, extended Army’s lead to 35-14 with 7:36 remaining in the fourth quarter. Daily accumulated 152 rushing yards from 24 carries.

Evan Simon keeps Temple competitive

Quarterback Evan Simon connected with tight end Daniel Evert for a 54-yard touchdown pass.

Following that, Simon passed to receiver Antonio Jones for a successful two-point conversion.

As a result, Army led Temple 28-14 with 11:19 left in the fourth quarter.

Temple finally finds the end zone

After enduring 28 unanswered points over three quarters, the Owls found the score sheet when Evan Simon threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Dante Wright. They attempted a two-point conversion but came up short, trailing Army 28-6 with just 1:10 left in the third quarter.

Kanye Udoh boosts Army’s advantage

Running back Kanye Udoh added to the Black Knights’ advantage with a 28-yard touchdown run with 5:22 remaining in the third quarter, followed by a successful extra-point attempt by Gronotte. The Black Knights led 28-0.

During the broadcast of the Army vs. Temple game, ESPN announcers Dan Mullen, Matt Barrie, and sideline reporter Harry Lyles Jr. were seen enjoying cheesesteaks, prompting reactions from fans watching at home.

Army maintains dominance

Highlights from the first half

In the first half, Daily connected on two out of six pass attempts for 54 yards and added a rushing touchdown with 11 carries for 46 yards. Noah Short was effective as well, leading the rushing game with 69 yards and a touchdown on only two carries.

On the other side, Temple’s Evan Simon completed 11 out of 18 passes for 85 yards.

Halftime score: Army 14, Temple 0

Temple struggled to score on their subsequent drive, resulting in a punt for the fourth time during the half.

Army began their possession at their own 20-yard line, and quarterback Bryson Daily completed a 27-yard pass to Casey Reynolds.

After a significant play, Daily was sacked by Temple’s Diwun Black, and an initial fumble recovery was overturned after a review by the officials.

Temple makes a crucial third-down stop

Linebacker D.J. Woodbury halted running back Jake Rendina on third down, forcing Army into a fourth down situation. Temple’s coach Stan Drayton took his last timeout of the half, allowing Temple to get the ball back with 1:18 remaining and a chance to reduce Army’s lead before halftime.

Army keeps the upper hand

Both teams executed eight-play drives during their final possessions of the first quarter; however, neither could convert those into points. As the second quarter began, the Black Knights were in a strong position at the Temple 46-yard line.

Army advanced down the field, culminating in Daily’s 8-yard touchdown run. Gronotte’s extra-point attempt was successful.

With 11:50 left in the second quarter, Army held a 14-0 lead over Temple.

Army led Temple 7-0 with 9:48 still to play in the first quarter.

In the first quarter, the Army team has successfully scored on all four of its opening drives this season, making them the only FBS team to achieve this.

Touchdown Omitted

During their first drive, Simon and the Owls had a potential 49-yard touchdown called back due to a holding penalty on lineman Diego Barajas, leading Temple to decide to punt.

Predictions for Army vs. Temple

ESPN: Army Has an 82% Chance of Winning

ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives the Army Black Knights an 82.2% probability of defeating the Temple Owls in Week 5.

Covers: Army Black Knights Victory

Douglas Farmer states: “The Knights are known for their rushing game, as they run the ball 33.7% more than the average team. The Owls struggle significantly against rushing offenses, ranking last in expected points added (EPA) with an average of 0.199 per rush. This means that teams gain about a fifth of a point per rush against them. With Army averaging 57 rushing attempts per game, they should add plenty of points against a defense allowing 5.73 yards per carry. Expect Army to gain an early lead and continue running, as Temple’s defense will likely be unable to handle it.”

Pickswise: Backing Army Black Knights

Michael Petty points out: “While Army hasn’t faced exceptionally strong opponents yet, Temple isn’t impressive either, and they stand at 3-0 both straight up and against the spread. The Knights have won their games by an average margin of 25 points, far exceeding the spread in this matchup. Over their last 10 games, they are 7-3 straight up and 6-4 against the spread. My best bet for Army vs. Temple is for the Black Knights to win by two touchdowns or more.”

Winners and Whiners: Favoring Army Black Knights

The team comments: “This Thursday night football presents a matchup of contrasting styles. Army has been averaging 356 rushing yards per game this season, and their well-coached team creates various challenges for defenses. Quarterback Bryson Daily has been effective, accumulating 340 rushing yards in three games. Army’s closest competition so far resulted in a 17-point victory over Florida Atlantic, while Temple is outmatched here. Temple struggled with only 35 rushing yards against Navy, so they’ll have to rely on the passing game; however, Army’s formidable pass defense is averaging over one interception per game. Relying on long pass plays and field goals won’t work this time. Expect Army to dominate. Bet on Army to cover the spread.”

Army vs. Temple Historical Record

In the last meeting back in 2017, the Army Black Knights edged out the Temple Owls with a score of 31-28. However, historically, Temple leads the series with a record of 7 wins to Army’s 6 losses since their first matchup in 1943.
