Burlington’s Breastfeeding Innovator Names New CEO to Lead the Charge

Burlington Company Co-founder to Succeed as CEO

Christine Dodson, a co-founder of Mamava, will assume the role of chief executive officer in February for the Burlington-based company known for its innovative “pods” designed to allow mothers to breastfeed or pump milk in various workplaces and public areas.

The inaugural Mamava pod was set up at the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport in 2013. Since then, the company has installed over 5,000 pods across the nation, including locations such as office buildings, stadiums, medical centers, convention halls, aquariums, and more.

In addition to the pods, Mamava offers valuable breastfeeding resources aimed at employers, organizations, and mothers themselves. Their free mobile app assists breastfeeding parents in locating, accessing, and reviewing more than 10,000 lactation spaces throughout the country.

Current CEO of Mamava to Retire After 35 Years in Business

Dodson will take over for Tom Witschi, who is retiring as CEO and concluding his lengthy career. Witschi joined Mamava in July 2022 as CEO after a distinguished career lasting over 35 years in various business positions. Before Mamava, he served in executive roles at Meredith Corporation, Filipacchi Media, Golf Digest Companies, and Reader’s Digest Association. Additionally, he was the CEO of EatingWell Media Group, which is based in Vermont, prior to its acquisition by Meredith Corporation.

Dodson co-founded Mamava with Chief Experience Officer Sascha Mayer in 2013 after they identified a lack of private breastfeeding spaces in workplaces and public areas. They designed a dedicated pod to offer mothers a clean, private environment to breastfeed or pump, leading to the establishment of Mamava.

Mayer expressed that “now is the ideal moment for Christine to step into the CEO role, utilizing her extensive background in operations and production as well as her commitment to Mamava’s mission of empowering more mothers to choose breastfeeding.”

Currently, Dodson is the chief operating officer of Mamava, where she supervises manufacturing, customer service, supply chain, and fulfillment processes. Before founding Mamava, she was the managing director at Solidarity of Unbridled Labour, a design studio in Burlington, and held leadership positions at Grey Advertising in New York City and State Street Corporation in Boston.
