Caitlin Clark Shatters WNBA Records: A Look at the Rookie’s Spectacular Season

Caitlin Clark is making waves as a record-breaking superstar.

As the top selection in the 2024 WNBA draft for the Indiana Fever, she began her journey in professional basketball following an impressive four-year stint at Iowa where she set multiple scoring records. Her remarkable shooting ability from long distances and her precision in passing astonished fans and garnered recognition from some of the game’s greatest legends.

Once she adapted to the WNBA level, Clark continued to break records.

On a grander stage and against tougher and more experienced opponents, she obliterated many long-standing league records, some of which had remained intact for nearly twenty years. Clark’s impact is evident, contributing to increased attendance, higher TV ratings, and a surge in merchandise sales. Her performance and confidence attracted a plethora of new fans, helping elevate the WNBA to new heights of popularity that it had not previously witnessed in its 28-year history.

Here’s a numerical highlight of Clark’s achievements during the 2024 regular season.

Caitlin Clark Sets New Assists Records

This season, Clark has established three new assists records. Most notably, on September 13, she surpassed the single-season assists record, previously held by Alyssa Thomas from the Connecticut Sun, during the Fever’s 78-74 defeat against the Las Vegas Aces.

Clark Breaks Nearly Two-Decade-Old Scoring Record

The former number one overall pick, Seimone Augustus from LSU, held the rookie scoring record for 18 years until Clark scored 35 points on September 15 during the Fever’s thrilling 110-109 win over the Dallas Wings.

Clark Achieves First Rookie Triple-Double

In addition to becoming the first rookie to achieve a triple-double, Clark is also among only eight players in WNBA history with several triple-doubles across their careers, including regular season and playoff games.

When is Caitlin Clark and the Fever’s Playoff Schedule?

The Fever are making their playoff return for the first time since 2016, empowered by Clark’s exceptional performances, which make her a strong contender for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

The Connecticut Sun, viewed as pre-season favorites for the WNBA title, secured the third seed by dominating the Chicago Sky, 85-54, in their last regular-season game on Thursday.

According to the WNBA playoff structure, the sixth seed faces the third seed in the opening round. All first-round matchups will be played in a best-of-three format. Here’s the Fever-Sun playoff schedule:

Game 1: Sunday, September 22, at Connecticut, 3 p.m. ET on ABC

Game 2: Wednesday, September 25, at Connecticut, 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
