After Taylor Swift publicly supported Kamala Harris on Instagram following the presidential debate late Tuesday night, conversation on social media intensified.

Caitlin Clark, a standout player for the Indiana Fever and a self-identified Swift fan, expressed her approval of Swift’s post.

Many wondered if this indicated that Clark, a leading candidate for the 2024 Rookie of the Year, was also endorsing Harris.

During her pregame press conference on Wednesday ahead of the Fever’s game against the Aces, Clark was asked whether she would endorse Harris.

“With my platform, I aim to encourage everyone to register to vote — this will be my second election,” Clark remarked, echoing Swift’s call for voter registration, which included a link to sign up.

“It’s important to learn about the candidates and the policies we support. That’s the best advice I can give to anyone in our country with that opportunity.”

Clark refrained from giving a direct answer concerning her own endorsement of Harris.

This is not the first instance of a prominent WNBA player engaging in political matters. In 2020, the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) collectively supported Rev. Raphael Warnock for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, championing a campaign against the then-incumbent Kelly Loeffler, who also owned the Atlanta Dream. The WNBA has historically been at the forefront of supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, with players sometimes choosing to forgo the national anthem in protest.

At the Paris Olympics, Breanna Stewart mentioned that WNBA players are dedicated to supporting Kamala Harris as much as possible, highlighting the importance of voting rights and reproductive rights—key issues for players.

However, Tuesday marked the first time Clark has made any political remarks, even as she attempted to downplay them during her Wednesday conversation.
