One-time $770 FEMA payment available for California wildfire victims: Here’s how to apply
Victims of the California wildfires can apply for a one-time payment of $770 from FEMA to assist with purchasing necessary items, as announced by President Joe Biden on Tuesday.
This federal support is provided through a FEMA initiative aimed at helping those in need obtain essential supplies, including water, baby formula, gasoline, and prescribed medications.
The Serious Needs Assistance Program is one of several FEMA initiatives currently available to provide relief to Californians while wildfire response efforts are underway. People affected by the fires may qualify for aid from multiple FEMA programs, according to an agency spokesperson who spoke to YSL News on Tuesday.
“We are not waiting for the fires to be extinguished before offering help to the victims; assistance is being provided immediately,” stated Biden. “As of now, nearly 6,000 survivors have signed up, and $5.1 million has already been disbursed.”
Countless firefighters, including many from prison work programs, are tirelessly combating the fierce blazes that have claimed at least 24 lives and devastated communities throughout Los Angeles County.
Here’s everything you need to know about the $770 FEMA payment and the application process.
Applying for FEMA Assistance
FEMA may assist with various expenses, such as purchasing essential items, temporary accommodation, replacing personal belongings, or carrying out basic repairs if your home has suffered damage from the fires, as mentioned in a recent news release.
However, FEMA assistance is primarily aimed at those who lack insurance or whose policies do not cover essential needs. Individuals with insurance should file a claim promptly and be prepared to share details about their coverage when applying for FEMA aid.
Applications for FEMA assistance can be submitted online, by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362, or via the FEMA app.
