Quarterback Chase Herbstreit, son of ex-Ohio State QB Kirk Herbstreit, commits to Michigan

Kirk Herbstreit, now a familiar face as an ESPN college football analyst, was once the quarterback for Ohio State, playing there between 1989 and 1992.

Now, his son is set to join the bitter rival of his father’s old team.

Chase Herbstreit, a quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class, has officially committed to Michigan, as he shared with On3 Sports on Sunday.

Chase recently completed his senior year at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, where he passed for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns, while running for 649 yards and adding eight touchdowns on the ground.

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Herbstreit currently does not hold a star rating from 247Sports.

He becomes the second quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class for Michigan’s head coach Sherrone Moore, joining Bryce Underwood, a five-star talent and the top recruit in the class, who committed to Michigan in November and officially signed with the school last week.

Kirk Herbstreit’s two older sons, Tye and Jake, previously walked on at Clemson. Jake later transferred to Ohio State to “explore other interests.” Another of Herbstreit’s sons, Zak, is currently a walk-on tight end at Ohio State and is in his fourth year with the program, having previously faced a heart issue that led to hospitalization during his college journey.
