Are the stock markets operating on Christmas Eve 2024? Here are the hours and closing details.
The stock markets in the United States will shut down early on Tuesday, December 24, and will be completely closed on Wednesday, December 25, in celebration of the Christmas holiday.
Both the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will finish trading at 1 p.m. ET on Christmas Eve. Furthermore, the U.S. bond market will also have an early close, winding down at 2 p.m. ET on December 24 and will remain shut on Christmas Day, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
The stock and bond markets will resume regular operations on Thursday, December 26, with Wall Street functioning as usual for a few days. The next planned market closure will occur on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for New Year’s Day.
On New Year’s Eve, the bond markets will also close early, at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, December 31, while the NASDAQ and NYSE will operate during their standard hours that day.
