Mets vs. Phillies live updates: Alonso, Winker hit home runs in NLDS Game 3

After two exciting matches in Philadelphia, the Phillies and Mets now meet in New York for Game 3 of the best-of-five National League Division Series at Citi Field on Tuesday.

The Mets claimed Game 1 with a late-game comeback on Saturday, while in Game 2, the Phillies rallied from being down 3-0 and 4-3, eventually winning the game in dramatic fashion with Nick Castellanos’ walk-off hit in the ninth inning.

Mets pitcher Sean Manaea (12-6, 3.47 ERA) is on the mound for the game, marking their first home game since September 22. Aaron Nola (14-8, 3.57 ERA) starts for the Phillies, boasting a 3.28 ERA over 14 games at Citi Field during his career.

Stay tuned for updates from Tuesday’s game:

Manaea gets through sixth-inning challenge

Mets pitcher Sean Manaea faced trouble in the sixth when he walked both Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner, but he bounced back by striking out Bryce Harper and getting Nick Castellanos, the hero from Game 2, to ground out into a double play, keeping the score at 2-0 for the Mets.

Winker hits a home run, Mets lead 2-0

In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Jesse Winker powered a home run off Aaron Nola, increasing the Mets’ lead to 2-0.

Winker was acquired from the Washington Nationals just before the trade deadline.

Bohm thrown out, Mets maintain 1-0 advantage

Mets center fielder Tyrone Taylor made an impressive throw to tag out Alec Bohm, who was trying to advance to second on a hit that went into the right-center gap, adding to the tension in the fourth inning.

Alonso’s second-inning homer gives Mets an early advantage

Leading off the second inning, Pete Alonso smashed a solo home run to right field against Aaron Nola, giving the Mets an early 1-0 lead.

This marks Alonso’s third home run of the postseason, following his winning shot in Game 3 of the National League wild-card series and a solo home run in Game 2 of the NLDS.

Game 3 between Phillies and Mets is on

Sean Manaea and Aaron Nola each retired their first batters in order, and the score is still tied at zero as the game enters the second inning at Citi Field.

Lindor discusses Mets’ homecoming

“Being home will definitely bring a different energy. But we gave it our all on the road, and we intend to do the same at home. No matter the venue, we have to play our best,” Lindor said.

“We understand that yesterday’s games are irrelevant. What matters is today. This city expects excellence, and that’s a great motivation for us as players. We can’t dwell on past or future games—just focus on the present. This environment is perfect for this time of year because it pushes us to give our all today.”

“I’m excited for the home crowd. It would be interesting to track which stadium is the loudest—I think it would be an exciting feature to have.”

Mets’ road show returns home

PHILADELPHIA — Outfielder Harrison Bader referred to the New York Mets as a “traveling circus” over the past couple of weeks.

What an entertaining show it’s been, as the team continues to showcase its skills in the postseason, highlighting thrilling plays and some lighthearted moments in the clubhouse after tense games.

After spending two weeks on the road, the Mets are set to make a grand entrance back to Citi Field for Game 3 of the National League Division Series against their long-time rivals, the Phillies. The game will kick off at 5:08 p.m. on Tuesday, coming right after an exciting 7-6 walk-off defeat on Sunday.

“This is exactly what fans look forward to in October baseball,” said Brandon Nimmo. “I believe we delivered an impressive performance for everyone watching from the stands and those at home. Playing this kind of baseball is incredibly enjoyable. That game will go down as an immediate classic.”
