Coldplay honors Taylor Swift in Vienna after foiled terrorist threat
Even though Taylor Swift’s performances in Vienna were canceled, Chris Martin from Coldplay made sure her music resonated in the city.
At a concert on Wednesday at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, Martin teamed up with Maggie Rogers to sing Swift’s song “Love Story,” as captured in a video on YouTube.
This heartfelt performance came after three of Swift’s planned shows were called off due to reports of an interrupted terrorist attack aimed at her concert.
While performing, Martin spoke to the audience about how Vienna had recently been “in the news all over the world for unfortunate reasons” but expressed admiration for the “beauty, togetherness, and kindness” displayed by Swift’s fans.
“I don’t want you to think that we don’t appreciate Swifties in our band,” Martin remarked before encouraging fans to locate the “biggest Swiftie” in the audience.
The band brought two Swifties to the stage as they performed “Love Story,” a track from Swift’s “Fearless” segment of the Eras tour.
“We perform this song with immense love for Taylor and for all the Swifties, and we extend our love to young people influenced into harmful behaviors,” Martin stated. “Our love goes out to them too.”
Coldplay’s homage follows Taylor Swift’s message on canceled Vienna performances
Authorities revealed that a 19-year-old suspect had planned to cause mass harm during Swift’s Vienna concert using “bladed weapons and potentially a bomb.”
On the same day, Swift took to Instagram to address the cancellation, sharing with fans that the news filled her with new fears and deep guilt, knowing many had planned to attend those concerts.
Continuing her tour in London after the cancellations, she clarified her initial silence on the matter.
“I want to be clear: I won’t comment publicly if it could provoke those intent on harming my fans,” she expressed. “In situations like this, ‘silence’ is about being cautious and waiting for the right moment to speak. My priority was to complete our European tour safely, and I’m relieved we accomplished that.”
