‘All My Children’ actor Colin Egglesfield announces cancer recurrence, undergoes surgery
Colin Egglesfield, a soap opera star, has opened up about his continuing struggle with cancer.
Known for his roles in “All My Children” and “Melrose Place,” the actor revealed in an Instagram update on Thursday that he recently had surgery for prostate cancer.
“Fortunately, we identified my prostate cancer at an early stage. After a year of extensive research and consulting various medical professionals, I decided to take a proactive approach and opted for surgery,” shared Egglesfield, who is also recognized for his work in “Something Borrowed” and Hallmark movies.
He emphasized, “I hope this serves as a reminder that you are not alone in whatever challenges you face. It’s crucial to advocate for your health, which includes regular checkups, gathering information, and asking for assistance when needed!” Colin Egglesfield portrayed Auggie Kirkpatrick in “Melrose” and Josh Madden in “All My Children.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer is among the most frequently diagnosed cancers. The severity ranges from cases that require no intervention to aggressive ones that can spread rapidly. About one in eight men is expected to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis throughout their lives, based on data from the American Cancer Society.
This isn’t the first time Egglesfield has confronted a serious illness. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2006.
In his post, he shared that he has been receiving care at the City of Hope cancer treatment center in Phoenix and expressed gratitude towards the doctors, nurses, and staff for their crucial support during this challenging period.
“I’m feeling healthier and stronger every day,” Egglesfield wrote. “I’m a bit sore but making progress, determined to return stronger and healthier, especially with the help of my trusty walker.”
Fellow Hallmark actor Andrew Walker showed his support by commenting, “You’re such an inspiration, buddy. So glad you’re on the other side of this. It can only go up from here!!”
Actress Elisabeth Röhm also offered her support, saying, “Sending you so much love” accompanied by a heart emoji. Reality star and former soap actress Chrishell Stause added, “Omg I’m so sorry! That’s really unfair! I know you’re tough but I’m truly sorry you have to keep proving that. Sending you SO much love.”
Egglesfield admitted that this latest treatment has been tough, but he remains hopeful about what lies ahead.
“The start of this year has been challenging,” he reflected. “This is yet another chance to choose who I want to be in the face of uncertainty and challenges with my newest cancer diagnosis.”
