Oilers’ Connor McDavid achieves milestone of 1,000 points in record time

Connor McDavid is undoubtedly the standout player of his era.

He has now etched his name among the all-time greats.

The star player for the Edmonton Oilers notched his 1,000th career point on Thursday night, becoming the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach this remarkable feat.

Selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, he accomplished this in just 659 games. For comparison, Wayne Gretzky reached this in 424 games, Mario Lemieux in 516, and Mike Bossy in 656 games. Peter Stastny comes in fifth with a time of 682 games. All four of these legends are inductees of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

At 27, McDavid is the fourth-youngest player in NHL history to achieve 1,000 points, a milestone also reached by 98 other players.

He scored his milestone point during a home game against the Nashville Predators, adding an assist on the overtime game-winner. His current stats stand at 341 goals and 660 assists.

McDavid’s performance has been impressive since he returned from sitting out three games due to an ankle injury. Although he was held scoreless upon his return, he quickly bounced back with three points against the Vancouver Canucks and four points against the New York Islanders.
