Connor Stalions, Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing staff member, gets a new position
Connor Stalions has secured a new position and remains in Michigan.
He has taken on the role of defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford, as confirmed by new head coach William McMichael to the Free Press on Friday.
Stalions gained attention nationwide last October when reports of Michigan football’s alleged sign-stealing surfaced, placing him at the core of the situation. He was promptly suspended with pay by the university, which announced his resignation a few weeks later on November 3.
He made headlines again in early August, when the NCAA issued a draft Notice of Allegations (NOA) to Michigan following their investigation into a years-long illegal sign-stealing operation and recruiting violations during a COVID dead period in 2021.
Stalions was among four staff members at Michigan, including head coach Jim Harbaugh, named in the draft for Level I violations, the most serious of offenses under NCAA enforcement guidelines.
Additionally, first-year head coach Sherrone Moore is facing a Level II violation as indicated in the NOA draft; he could be suspended and receive a show-cause penalty for allegedly deleting 52 text messages exchanged with Stalions on the same day the illegal sign-stealing scheme broke. These messages were later retrieved through “device imaging,” and Moore eventually presented them to the investigators, according to the draft obtained by ESPN.
The NCAA’s draft also revealed that Stalions was caught wearing Central Michigan coaching attire along with a sideline pass while monitoring the Chippewas’ sideline during their 2023 opening game at Spartan Stadium against Michigan State.
Stalions is set to address the scandal in an upcoming Netflix episode of “Untold,” set to air on August 27. The episode, titled “Sign Stealer,” will provide Stalions the opportunity to share his perspective on Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing activities that branded him as a notorious villain.
