Conor McGregor, who hasn’t competed since 2021, discusses his current status and plans to return to the UFC

Conor McGregor informed fans on Saturday that he won’t return to fighting until 2025.

“One thing is for sure,” McGregor stated in an interview with Ariel Helwani during the DAZN broadcast of the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. “Whenever and wherever I fight, I will be fully prepared. That’s where my focus is right now.”

In June, McGregor withdrew from his planned matchup with Michael Chandler, citing an injury. Chandler, in the meantime, has found another opponent for a fight in November.

“That’s just how it is,” McGregor remarked. “I’ve accepted it and I’ll keep moving forward. My role is to stay in the gym and maintain my fitness.”

The 36-year-old McGregor has not competed since July 2021, where he suffered a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier after breaking his leg in the first round. He has struggled recently, losing three of his last four bouts, leading to uncertainty about his ability to return to his peak performance.

McGregor secured the UFC featherweight title in 2015 and the UFC lightweight title in 2016.
