Lawsuit Against Conor McGregor Alleging Sexual Assault at 2023 NBA Finals
A woman has officially accused Conor McGregor of sexual assault following an incident after the 2023 NBA Finals and has initiated legal action against the mixed martial arts athlete.
The lawsuit was submitted on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, as reported by YSL News Sports, and also names the Miami Heat as defendants due to claims of serving McGregor excessive amounts of alcohol.
An anonymous woman, identified as a 49-year-old resident of Miami-Dade County who holds a senior vice president position at a prominent financial firm on Wall Street, alleged that McGregor assaulted her after Game 4 of the NBA Finals, which featured the Miami Heat against the Denver Nuggets at the Kaseya Center. Although a criminal sexual assault report was made, the Florida State Attorney’s Office decided against bringing charges against McGregor.
Jim Dunn, the attorney for the woman, communicated to YSL News Sports that pursuing a civil case was her only option for seeking “justice” since no criminal charges were filed against McGregor.
“My client has carefully considered the decision to move forward with this civil case, and she is concerned about the potential impact on her job on Wall Street. Nevertheless, her primary objective in filing this lawsuit is to raise awareness and inspire others to come forward about sexual assault,” Dunn remarked.
Barbara Llanes, McGregor’s legal representative, stated to YSL News Sports that the legal team for the former UFC star is “confident” the lawsuit will be dismissed.
“Following a detailed investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney determined there was no case to pursue. Almost two years later, and after at least three lawyers, the plaintiff has crafted a new false narrative. We believe this case will also be dismissed,” Llanes expressed.
Details of the Allegations Against Conor McGregor
The lawsuit outlines that the woman and McGregor started talking in the arena’s courtside club area following the game. According to a friend of the woman, as they were preparing to leave, one of McGregor’s security personnel allegedly told her, “Conor wants you,” and then took hold of her wrist. When she asked the security member to release her, he reportedly said, “No, Conor will kill me if I lose you.”
It is further claimed that McGregor then pulled the woman into the men’s restroom with her friend closely behind. Inside, McGregor allegedly led her to a stall but arena security did not permit the friend to enter with them. It is claimed that McGregor assaulted the woman in the stall by forcefully placing his penis in her mouth while she attempted to urinate. When she tried to leave, McGregor purportedly “slammed” her against the wall and made attempts to sodomize her.
The woman is seeking reimbursement for medical expenses, compensatory damages, and additional relief from both McGregor and the arena’s security.
Additionally, the lawsuit recalls a notable incident that occurred that evening, where McGregor, while participating in a promotional skit with the Heat’s mascot, Burnie, struck the mascot twice, necessitating medical attention after the game.
Recently, McGregor was found liable in a civil lawsuit regarding a 2018 sexual assault case in Ireland. During the court proceedings, McGregor admitted under oath to having sexual relations during the incident in question but asserted that it was consensual and announced his intention to appeal the verdict.
