Costco recalls chicken products due to listeria concerns linked to a larger BrucePac meat recall
Recently, Costco announced a recall of several meat products due to possible listeria contamination.
This recall is part of a larger issue involving ready-to-eat chicken and various meat items sold in stores throughout the U.S., including big names like Walmart, Publix, Target, Aldi, and Trader Joe’s.
The specific products recalled by Costco include Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara and Tagliatelle Grilled White Chicken & Portabello Mushroom Sauce, according to a letter sent to customers on October 11.
These items were available for purchase between September and October 2024, as stated by the Costco headquarters in Issaquah, Washington.
In addition, Costco has previously recalled the following items:
- Readywise 110 Serving Emergency Protein Bucket
- Red’s Southwestern Grill Chicken Mini Burritos
- El Monterey Mexican Grill Chicken & Cheese Taquitos
Customers who have purchased these items should refrain from consuming them and return them to their nearest Costco for a refund, as indicated in the company’s letter.
Symptoms of Listeriosis or Listeria poisoning
Listeriosis, commonly known as listeria poisoning, is a foodborne illness caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. It is a serious infection that can be particularly dangerous for older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.
Common symptoms include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Headaches
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Seizures
- Diarrhea
- Other gastrointestinal issues
- Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or severe infections in newborns
- Death
Individuals at higher risk who develop flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming contaminated products should seek medical attention.
Connection to a larger recall involving BrucePac
This recall relates to a much larger one concerning BrucePac, a manufacturer of pre-cooked meats.
BrucePac recently provided updates about the nearly 10 million-pound recall that was first reported on October 9 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Routine testing discovered L. monocytogenes in BrucePac’s ready-to-eat poultry, which can lead to listeriosis if ingested.
The affected products were distributed to establishments and distributors nationwide, including restaurants and other food service providers, and can be found in salads, frozen meals, and various pre-packaged items across different brands available at many locations.

Steps to take if you have a recalled product
Consumers who have bought any affected products should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Retailers should refrain from selling these recalled items and should either return or safely dispose of them.
As of the latest information available, there have been no confirmed cases of adverse health reactions related to these recalls.
Anyone worried about possible illness is advised to consult their doctor or healthcare provider.
