Live Score and Updates: Cowboys vs. Giants – Week 4 Thursday Night Football
This Thursday marks the start of NFL Week 4, featuring “Thursday Night Football” where the Dallas Cowboys visit the New York Giants.
Both teams hold a 1-2 record as they enter this NFC East showdown. The Giants recently achieved a notable 21-15 victory against the Cleveland Browns on their home turf. On the other hand, the Cowboys fell to the Ravens with a score of 28-25, marking their second straight defeat. Despite their home loss streak, Dallas is favored in tonight’s matchup at MetLife Stadium.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott boasts an impressive 32-8 record against NFC East teams, including a remarkable 12-game winning streak against the Giants. In contrast, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has an 8-12-1 record against division rivals.
During the first three weeks of the season, the Cowboys have faced struggles on defense, ranking last in the league for rushing yards allowed per game (185.7) and rushing yards allowed per carry (5.4). They have conceded three rushing touchdowns in consecutive games. The Giants will present a revamped running game led by Devin Singletary tonight, following Saquon Barkley’s departure to Philadelphia in the offseason.
CeeDee Lamb and Malik Nabers are key receivers for their respective teams. Lamb, coming off his first All-Pro season, has yet to surpass 100 receiving yards in a game this year, a feat he accomplished eight times in the previous season. Meanwhile, Giants rookie Malik Nabers has quickly made a name for himself, currently ranking second in the league for receptions (23), fifth in receiving yards (271), and tied for the most receiving touchdowns (3).
Cowboys 14, Giants 9: Greg Joseph converts a 38-yard field goal
The Cowboys’ defense continues to hold strong under pressure. Dallas managed to sack Daniel Jones on third down, even though Micah Parsons was held. As a result, New York settled for a 38-yard field goal.
Greg Joseph successfully made the kick, and now the Cowboys have 1:06 left in the first half to respond to the Giants’ scoring.
Devin Singletary makes a key fourth-down conversion
The Giants opted to take a risk on fourth-and-inches near midfield. Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson had a clear path to tackle Singletary, seemingly setting him up for a loss.
However, Devin Singletary managed to escape and secured the first down, keeping the Giants’ drive alive.
Cowboys challenge results in loss over Devin Singletary fumble
Mike McCarthy challenged the ruling on a potential fumble by Giants running back Devin Singletary during a first-down carry that was ultimately ruled a no gain. It appeared Singletary lost control of the ball after his knee touched the ground, leading the officiating crew to uphold the original call.
The Cowboys now have one challenge left for the remainder of the game.
Cowboys 14, Giants 6: Dak Prescott connects with CeeDee Lamb for a 55-yard touchdown
On the play following Hunter Luepke’s successful fourth-and-inches run, Prescott launched a deep ball to Lamb, who caught it and made an inside cut before gliding into the end zone without any defenders in sight.
Lamb did receive a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, yet the touchdown still counted. Brandon Aubrey successfully added the 48-yard extra point, extending Dallas’ lead to 14-6.
Update on Micah Parsons’ injury
Officiations removed Micah Parsons from the game just before the Giants’ final third-and-9 after he took a hit to the head while assisting on a tackle of Wan’Dale Robinson on the preceding play.
Parsons walked off the field under his own power and was taken to the blue medical tent for evaluation.
He later returned to the sidelines, expected to play after being treated for what was referred to as a neck injury by the press box.
Cowboys 7, Giants 6: Giants make it 6 with Greg Joseph’s field goal
On a critical third-and-9, Daniel Jones made a short throw to Malik Nabers, but DeMarvion Overshown tackled him for just a 3-yard gain. Consequently, the Giants opted to send Greg Joseph for a 41-yard field goal, which he successfully executed to bring the score to 7-6, favoring the Cowboys.
Wan’Dale Robinson played a vital role in New York’s scoring series, turning a short catch on another third-and-9 into an 11-yard gain. He has recorded five receptions for 34 yards so far.
End of the First Quarter: Cowboys leading 7-3
The Cowboys are leading early on, but both offenses are effectively moving the ball. Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones have combined for only one incomplete pass, with their main weapons, CeeDee Lamb and Malik Nabers, accumulating 40 yards and 35 yards, respectively.
Dallas’ defense appears to be performing better than in the previous weeks, but the Giants are 2-for-3 on third down conversions so far.
Cowboys 7, Giants 3: Rico Dowdle scores on a 15-yard screen pass
On second-and-goal from the 15, following a penalty against left tackle Tyler Guyton, the Cowboys called a screen pass. Running back Rico Dowdle caught a pass from Prescott and maneuvered through the defense untouched for a touchdown.
The officials initially threw a flag on the play but later decided to pick it up. Brandon Aubrey successfully converted the extra point, putting the Cowboys ahead 7-3.
CeeDee Lamb was a key contributor to Dallas’ opening scoring drive, catching four passes for 30 yards, along with a 10-yard run from the backfield.
Giants 3, Cowboys 0: Greg Joseph kicks a 52-yard field goal for an early lead
Following Wan’Dale Robinson’s unsuccessful attempt to reach the first-down mark on a third-and-10 play, Brian Daboll decided to attempt a field goal. Greg Joseph successfully kicked a 52-yard field goal, contributing to the excellent performance of kickers from over 50 yards as the 2024 NFL season gets underway.
The Giants are currently leading 3-0, with Daniel Jones making an impressive start by completing all 3 of his passes for a total of 53 yards on the opening drive.
Malik Nabers outmaneuvers Andrew Booth for a significant gain
The Giants managed a better result on their first third-down attempt compared to the Cowboys, as Daniel Jones connected with Nabers, who was unmarked down the left sideline, resulting in a 39-yard gain. The rookie wide receiver executed a dazzling move to leave cornerback Booth behind, setting up the substantial play.
Cowboys go three-and-out to start the game
The Cowboys were quick to exit their opening drive, taking only 1:07 to go three-and-out. Rico Dowdle managed a total of 5 yards on two carries, but Dak Prescott couldn’t connect with CeeDee Lamb on third down, resulting in an incompletion.
Now, the Giants are set to attempt to increase their lead, starting from their own 15-yard line.
What’s on Dak Prescott’s jersey?
Prescott sports a patch in the shape of the Walter Payton Man of the Year trophy on his jersey. The NFL introduced this uniform decal in 2017 to recognize recipients of the prestigious award.
He earned the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2022 and began wearing the patch in the 2023 NFL season.

NFL rookie WR receiving record: Giants’ Malik Nabers could join elite list
Puka Nacua currently holds the record for the most receiving yards by a rookie wide receiver in NFL history, amassing 1,486 yards during his 2023 season with the Los Angeles Rams. Nacua surpassed expectations as a fifth-round pick and finished second only to C.J. Stroud for the Offensive Rookie of the Year title.
Prior to Nacua’s remarkable achievement, Bill Groman held the rookie receiving yards record since 1960, totaling 1,473 yards during the AFL season. Groman’s record was established in just 14 games, whereas Nacua set his in 17 games. Puka also surpassed fellow active wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase (1,455 yards in 2021) and Justin Jefferson (1,400 yards in 2020) for the highest receiving totals in the Super Bowl era.
- Puka Nacua (Los Angeles Rams, 2023): 1,486 receiving yards
- Bill Groman (Houston Oilers, 1960): 1,473 receiving yards
- Calvin Johnson (Detroit Lions, 2012): 1,964 receiving yards
- Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings, 2022): 1,809 receiving yards
- Cooper Kupp (Los Angeles Rams, 2021): 1,947 receiving yards
- Ja’Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals, 2021): 1,455 receiving yards
- Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings, 2020): 1,400 receiving yards
- Anquan Boldin (Arizona Cardinals, 2003): 1,377 receiving yards
- Randy Moss (Minnesota Vikings, 1998): 1,313 receiving yards
- Odell Beckham Jr. (New York Giants, 2014): 1,305 receiving yards
- Michael Clayton (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2004): 1,193 receiving yards
- Michael Thomas (New Orleans Saints, 2016): 1,137 receiving yards
- Terry Glenn (New England Patriots, 1996): 1,132 receiving yards
- Bill Brooks (Indianapolis Colts, 1986): 1,131 receiving yards
- Garrett Wilson (New York Jets, 2022): 1,103 receiving yards
Malik Nabers has achieved 271 receiving yards in the initial three weeks of the 2024 season, which is an impressive start that sets him up nicely to potentially surpass Nacua’s record.
Trevon Diggs vs. Malik Nabers: The Cowboys Cornerback and Giants Wide Receiver’s Rivalry
This week’s “Thursday Night Football” will be the first matchup between Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers and Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs. However, there seems to be some tension brewing between them. Here’s the story behind it. — Ayrton Ostly
Micah Parsons vs. Lawrence Taylor: Comparing Cowboys Edge Rusher to Giants Legend
Micah Parsons currently ranks tied for 11th place in sacks for a player within their first 53 games. Here’s a look at the 10 players ahead of him along with their sack numbers:
-
-
- Reggie White: 65
- Derrick Thomas: 49
- Von Miller: 48
- Dwight Freeney: 45
- Aldon Smith: 44
- Myles Garrett: 43.5
- Shawne Merriman: 43.5
- Nick Bosa: 43
- Joey Bosa: 42
- John Abraham: 42
-
Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor had only 27 sacks in his first 53 games, placing him tied for 90th on this list.
Taylor reached elite pass-rusher status later in his career than Parsons appears to be doing now. In his initial three years (including the strike-shortened 1982 NFL season), Taylor recorded just 26 sacks, but he accumulated 98 sacks over the next seven seasons starting in 1984 when he was 25 years old, the same age as Parsons this year.
Statistically, Parsons has been more effective as a pass rusher at the start of his career. However, Taylor’s middle career is what established him as one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history. The upcoming seasons will determine if Parsons can join that elite group.
Brandon Aubrey’s Longest Field Goal: His All-Time Ranking
During Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season, Brandon Aubrey made the longest field goal of his career. On the Cowboys’ first drive, he attempted a 65-yard field goal to narrow the gap against the Baltimore Ravens, who were leading 7-0.
The kick was successful with ample distance. Although it was one of the longest kicks ever made, it was just shy of Justin Tucker’s record of 66 yards.
Here is a complete list of nine kickers who have made field goals of 63 yards or more:
-
-
- 66 yards — Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens (2021)
- 65 yards — Brandon Aubrey, Dallas Cowboys (2024)
- 64 yards — Matt Prater, Denver Broncos (2013)
- 63 yards – Brett Maher, Dallas Cowboys (2019)
- 63 yards – Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers (2018)
- 63 yards – David Akers, San Francisco 49ers (2012)
- 63 yards – Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland Raiders (2011)
- 63 yards – Jason Elam, Denver Broncos (1998)
- 63 yards – Tom Dempsey, New Orleans Saints (1970)

Rex Ryan Claims He ‘Could Have Fixed’ the Cowboys Defense
Following the departure of former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who took the head coaching position with the Washington Commanders, the Cowboys are currently among the least effective defenses in the league in 2024.
A former NFL head coach suggested this situation could have been avoided.
“I could have fixed [the Cowboys’ defense] in a New York minute,” Rex Ryan stated on ESPN’s DiPietro and Rothenberg. “However, they weren’t willing to spend what it took to bring me on board.” — Jack McKessy
History Between the Giants and Cowboys
These two teams have a rich history as divisional rivals. The Cowboys and Giants have faced each other 124 times (including one postseason match), with Dallas securing 75 victories and the Giants claiming 47 wins, along with 2 ties.
Daniel Jones has a career record of 1-7 against the Cowboys, whereas Dak Prescott holds a dominating 12-2 record against New York.
