Cowboys Seek Permission to Interview Eagles’ Kellen Moore for Head Coach Position, Sources Say
The Dallas Cowboys continue their search for a new head coach, focusing on a well-known name.
Reports indicate that the team has requested to interview Kellen Moore, the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.
At 36 years old, Moore started his coaching journey in Dallas as a quarterbacks coach in 2018 after finishing his playing career with the Cowboys from 2015 to 2017. He was promoted to offensive coordinator the following year and maintained that position after Mike McCarthy took over as head coach in 2020.
Except for the 2020 season—when quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a severe ankle injury in October—the Cowboys ranked among the top six in scoring during every season Moore directed the offense. However, the Cowboys and Moore “mutually agreed to part ways” after a 2022 season marked by disappointment following a divisional-round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, leading McCarthy to assume responsibility for play-calling.
After spending a year with the Los Angeles Chargers, Moore took the reins of the Eagles’ offense during the last offseason. Philadelphia, which is set to play the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs, has achieved remarkable success, finishing second in scoring and first in rushing; running back Saquon Barkley hit a significant milestone, becoming only the ninth player to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season.
After formally parting ways with McCarthy on Monday, team owner Jerry Jones discussed the head coaching vacancy with former Cowboys star and current Colorado coach Deion Sanders. Additionally, the Cowboys plan to interview former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh and Seattle Seahawks’ assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, according to various reports.
