Current Evacuation Orders for California Wildfires: Maps Included
As several wildfires rage on in California, evacuation orders remain active in many regions of the southern state as of Wednesday morning.
Investigations are underway regarding the causes of three separate wildfires that ignited in Southern California on Tuesday. The Palisades Fire began around 10:30 a.m. PST and has burned approximately 3,000 acres between Santa Monica and Malibu. Concurrently, the Hurst Fire started in the San Fernando Valley, northwest of downtown Los Angeles, affecting about 500 acres. Later in the day, the Eaton Fire ignited near Pasadena at around 6:30 p.m., consuming over 2,200 acres.
Prior to the onset of these fires, the National Weather Service issued a severe warning for extreme fire danger in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. They reported that winds could reach up to 100 miles per hour, which, when combined with low humidity and dry vegetation, posed a significant risk.
As of Wednesday morning, at least two lives have been lost, and over 30,000 residents have evacuated their homes in Los Angeles County.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported that all three blazes were still at 0% containment as of Wednesday morning.
