Cowboys Coaching Search: Dallas Set to Interview OC Brian Schottenheimer, According to Reports
The Dallas Cowboys might not have to go far to choose their next head coach.
Just eight days after they parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, and amidst speculation surrounding Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, multiple sources suggest that Dallas is preparing to interview offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for their head coaching position.
At 51 years old, Schottenheimer is regarded as “well-respected” within the organization and has a history of serving as an offensive coordinator for five different teams, including the Jets, Rams, Georgia Bulldogs (college football), Seahawks, and the Cowboys, since 2006. He has held the position of Dallas’ offensive coordinator for the past two years after starting as an offensive analyst during the 2022 season.
Over the last two seasons, Schottenheimer did not make the final calls on offensive plays. Those responsibilities were handled by McCarthy, the (now former) head coach, in 2023 after previous offensive coordinator Kellen Moore departed for a position with the Eagles.
In Schottenheimer’s inaugural season as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator in 2023, the team boasted the highest-scoring offense in the NFL, finishing with a record of 12-5 and clinching the NFC East division title.
However, this year, Dallas struggled, ranking 21st in the NFL for points per game, finishing with a 7-10 record and missing the playoffs.
