Dallas Wings Secure No. 1 Pick in 2025 WNBA Draft, Poised to Draft Paige Bueckers
The outcome of the Paige Bueckers lottery has been decided.
The Dallas Wings have triumphed in the WNBA draft lottery, earning the top selection for the 2025 draft, which positions them to potentially select the UConn star.
Dallas entered the lottery as the team with the second-best odds, with the Los Angeles Sparks holding the top spot. However, the Wings enhanced their chances by swapping their first-round pick with the Chicago Sky’s. This maneuver significantly improved Dallas’ odds, leading to their selection of the first overall pick.
Similar to last year, when Caitlin Clark was widely regarded as the definite No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, this year features a clear frontrunner in Bueckers. Before making her college debut, Bueckers was the top prospect in her high school recruiting class and has continued to impress at UConn. She earned accolades as the AP Player of the Year and Naismith College Player of the Year in 2021 following an extraordinary freshman year, although injuries limited her during the subsequent seasons.
Currently, Bueckers is in her final year with the Huskies, expected to maintain her status as one of the premier talents in women’s basketball. With averages of 19.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists across 88 games at UConn, she still has one year of eligibility left after this season, but she is anticipated to turn professional once the season wraps up.
The Wings are still searching for a new head coach after parting ways with Latricia Trammell, but the new coach will inherit the top pick to kickstart their tenure.
