Delta flight from Atlanta to DC redirected to North Carolina due to reported smell
A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Georgia to Washington, D.C., was redirected to North Carolina on Wednesday after the flight deck reported an unusual odor, as stated by the airline.
Delta Flight DL850 took off from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with 150 passengers and six crew members but had to land at Raleigh-Durham International Airport instead of its planned route to Washington. A representative for Delta confirmed that all individuals on board were unharmed.
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently looking into the situation and issued a statement verifying the flight landed safely.
“Delta Air Lines Flight 850 arrived safely at Raleigh-Durham International Airport around 5 p.m. local time on Wednesday,” the FAA reported.
Passengers were accommodated with a new flight following the diversion
After landing in North Carolina, passengers were able to board a different flight to Washington, according to the spokesperson. The second plane reached Washington at 10:04 p.m.
“Ensuring safety is our utmost priority, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers,” Delta expressed in a statement early Thursday.
