Dennis Quaid believes ‘The Parent Trap’ cannot have a revival without Natasha Richardson
Dennis Quaid supports the idea of reviving “The Parent Trap,” but he feels it wouldn’t be right without a significant character.
“It would be amazing, but Natasha (Richardson) — how could we do it without her?” he shared with Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of his new movie “Reagan” on Tuesday. He expressed that her unexpected passing at 45 years old in 2009 still “breaks my heart.”
In the 1998 remake of “The Parent Trap,” originally released in 1961, Quaid and Richardson portrayed the parents of identical twins Annie and Hallie, who tried to reunite their divorced parents. Lisa Ann Walter, who expressed interest in reprising her role, played the nanny Chessy, while Elaine Hendrix played Quaid’s scheming fiancée, Meredith Blake.
“Lindsay Lohan is truly amazing. She has blossomed into a beautiful person,” noted Quaid.
“‘The Parent Trap’ was a pivotal moment in my career,” he added. “It’s such a lovely film, and I truly believe it will be enjoyed even 100 years from now.”
Natasha Richardson passed away after a minor fall while skiing in Quebec’s Mont Tremblant, which led to a fatal head injury. Although she initially declined medical assistance, the injury proved to be serious. She is survived by her husband, actor Liam Neeson, and their children, Micheál and Daniel, who were 13 and 12 years old, respectively, at the time.
Richardson was a member of the renowned Redgrave family, being the daughter of the esteemed actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson, both of whom have achieved numerous accolades.
“When that accident occurred, it deeply saddened me and many others,” Quaid shared with Us Weekly in 2018. “She had a wonderful marriage with Liam and two lovely children. She always arrived at work with a smile, which affected everyone around her.”
Lindsay Lohan was emotional when she saw her son watching ‘The Parent Trap’
<p”The Parent Trap” remains significant for Lohan as well.
In 2020, director Nancy Meyers and journalist Katie Couric brought the cast together via Zoom for a nostalgic reunion and to revisit scenes from the beloved movie.
“Without this film, I might never have pursued acting. How could anyone not want to act forever after being part of something like this?” Lohan expressed during the reunion. “It’s timeless and extraordinary — truly special.”
The timeless Disney movie resurfaced in Lohan’s life when she caught her young son Luai watching it on TV earlier this year, an experience she shared on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in March.
“I started to cry because he has no idea that’s mommy yet,” Lohan reminisced. “I wondered if I should turn it off, but he seemed captivated. Perhaps my voice is still familiar to him, so I thought maybe he senses it’s me. It was such a magical experience, and I took loads of pictures.”
