Browns QB Deshaun Watson has reached a settlement in a sexual assault lawsuit, attorney reports
The recent sexual assault lawsuit filed against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been settled confidentially, according to attorney Tony Buzbee’s statement to YSL News Sports. This settlement occurred less than a month after the lawsuit was initiated in Houston.
This lawsuit was the 27th one lodged against Watson since March 2021, with all claims made by women accusing him of sexual misconduct related to massage services. The most recent case involved a woman represented by Buzbee, who accused Watson of sexual assault and battery taking place in her apartment in October 2020.
“We have successfully resolved our client’s claim against Deshaun Watson,” Buzbee indicated. “The terms of the settlement are confidential.”
Out of the 27 lawsuits, 24 have been settled privately through Buzbee’s firm. The remaining three include one that was filed in October 2022 which is still ongoing, one that was retracted shortly after filing in March 2021, and another that is pending but inactive.
Rusty Hardin, Watson’s lawyer, did not reply immediately to a request for comments.
Although Watson has consistently denied any allegations of wrongdoing, he faced an 11-game suspension by the NFL in 2022 following the league’s investigation into several related cases.
This latest settlement may impede further investigation by the NFL, as such settlements typically include confidentiality agreements.
Following the filing of the latest lawsuit, the NFL announced it was reviewing the complaint and intended to investigate it under its personal conduct policy. However, the league had no comments regarding the settlement on Monday.
