Family seeks help in finding Hannah Kobayashi, who vanished after missing a flight connection at LAX
LOS ANGELES − A woman from Hawaii has gone missing after failing to catch a connecting flight in Los Angeles. Her family and the police have reported that she was last seen on security footage at the airport and a prominent shopping mall.
Hannah Kobayashi, 31, was last in contact on November 11, according to her family, following an earlier missed connecting flight from Maui to New York City on November 8 at Los Angeles International Airport.
Kobayashi is characterized as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, and fair skin that has freckles. Her family filed a missing person’s report with the Los Angeles Police Department on November 12.
Larie Pidgeon, Kobayashi’s aunt, informed YSL News on Sunday that just before she disappeared, the family received unusual text messages from Kobayashi.
“On (November 11), we began receiving texts stating that she did not feel safe, that someone was trying to access her funds, and that someone was attempting to steal her identity,” Pidgeon explained. “The messages were strange, using terms like ‘babe’, which isn’t how she normally communicates.”
YSL News has contacted the LAPD for further details.
Timeline of Kobayashi’s Disappearance
The family has gathered security footage showing Kobayashi leaving the airport on November 8 dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, tie-dye leggings, and carrying a dark green backpack.
Pidgeon mentioned that Kobayashi was spotted twice at The Grove shopping center, located about 10 miles northeast of LAX. She was seen once around noon by employees at Taschen book store on November 9 and was also recorded on video at a Nike event at approximately 3:40 PM on November 10. A photo from this two-day Nike and LeBron James event was shared on her Instagram that same day.
Kobayashi returned to LAX on November 11, but did not board any flight, as indicated by airport employees. Her phone, which is decorated with an Audrey Hepburn case, last connected to a network at LAX on November 11 but has yet to be located.
Search Targeting Rail Lines Near Airport
Kobayashi’s family has traveled to Los Angeles to aid in the search efforts. Pidgeon stated that their focus has been around LAX, including nearby bus services and the C and K-Line trains of the Los Angeles Metro system.
The family has launched a GoFundMe page to help cover the expenses related to the search. Pidgeon remarked that while they remain hopeful about finding Kobayashi, they understand that time is critical.
“It’s been seven days, which feels like an eternity,” said Pidgeon. “Considering the possibilities of trafficking or kidnapping, this could equate to months.”
Anyone with information on Kobayashi’s location is urged to contact LAPD at 1-877-527-3247 or The Rad Movement at 619-904-0840.
