‘Devastating accident’: Texas second grader passes away after being caught in car door during school drop-off
A second grader in Texas tragically died on Friday following a serious incident at a school drop-off zone, according to police reports.
The Borger Police Department stated that emergency responders arrived at Gateway Elementary around 8 a.m. after a student’s coat was caught in a car door while exiting the vehicle.
Despite attempts by a senior school official to assist, police mentioned that the event transpired so rapidly that it could not be prevented.
After attempts to save the child on site, the student was transported to a nearby hospital, where they unfortunately passed away.
Community mourns the loss of the student
The Borger Independent School District announced that counselors will be available for the school community starting Monday. Police have not disclosed any further details about the child’s identity.
“Our hearts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident as they cope with this profound loss,” stated the Borger Police Department. “The entire community shares in their grief.”
Additionally, the department mentioned that a local Walmart has contributed 40 stuffed animals to be placed at a memorial for the child in front of the school.
Borger is situated approximately 50 miles from Amarillo.
