Update on De’Von Achane’s Injury: Status for Thursday’s Dolphins-Bills Game
The Miami Dolphins are looking to end a four-game losing streak against their AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills. However, they may have to do this without a key offensive player.
Running back De’Von Achane is currently listed as questionable for Thursday night’s game due to an ankle injury.
In Miami’s Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Achane managed only 24 rushing yards on 10 attempts but excelled in the passing game, catching 7 passes for 76 yards. The third-round draft pick from Texas A&M in 2023 showcased his potential as a rookie, averaging an impressive 7.8 yards per carry and adding speed to coach Mike McDaniel’s offensive strategy.
If Achane is unable to participate, the Dolphins’ running game will face significant changes, especially since Raheem Mostert has already been ruled out due to a chest injury.
Here’s the latest information on Achane as the Thursday game approaches:
Injury Update for De’Von Achane
Coach McDaniel informed reporters on Wednesday that Achane will be a game-time decision due to his ankle issue.
“We’ll monitor how he performs,” McDaniel remarked.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, there is “optimism” about Achane’s chances of playing after he tests his ankle before the game.
On Wednesday, Achane participated in a light practice, listed as a limited participant during the walkthrough.
In his two encounters against the Bills last season, Achane accumulated 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns from 18 carries.
Dolphins Depth Chart: Who’s Next at RB if Achane Can’t Play?
If Achane is unavailable, Jeff Wilson Jr. appears to be the leading rusher option, having gained 26 yards on five carries in Week 1. The seventh-year back could see more opportunities, particularly with Mostert out.
Additionally, rookie Jaylen Wright, who did not play in the season opener, could also be added to the mix. Wright possesses impressive speed, clocking in at 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash, positioning him as a potential big-play threat.
