Disney cruise ship comes to the rescue of four people stranded off the coast of Bermuda

On Sunday afternoon, a Disney Cruise Line ship successfully saved four individuals from distress at sea.

The Disney Treasure, on its way from Eemshaven, Netherlands, to Port Canaveral, Florida, responded to an emergency call regarding a boat in trouble, as confirmed by a cruise line representative. This ship is set to embark on its first voyage from the Florida port in December.

“It is gratifying that the Disney Treasure could assist the distressed passengers,” stated Capt. Marco Nogara. “Our crew demonstrated excellent teamwork in the rescue, showcasing their training and dedication to safety.”

The 50-foot catamaran, named Serenity, started taking on water due to a gasket failure at its escape hatch, as reported by the U.S. Coast Guard. This incident occurred approximately 265 miles from Bermuda’s coastline.

The Coast Guard mentioned, “The Treasure dispatched a lifeboat and retrieved all four individuals from the Serenity between 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.” Details about the identities of the rescued passengers were not disclosed by either the cruise line or the Coast Guard.

This incident follows another recent maritime rescue involving an Oceania Cruises ship, which saved nearly 70 migrants attempting to reach Spain’s Canary Islands in June when their fishing boat malfunctioned in turbulent seas. Additionally, a Carnival Cruise Line vessel rescued 25 individuals from a small boat off the coast of Mexico in May.
