Dispute Between Disney and DirecTV Continues into CFB Week 3: Here’s What Games You Might Miss

Fans of college football are bracing for another week of blackout games, as the negotiation stalemate between The Walt Disney Company, which operates ESPN, ABC, and other college conference networks, and satellite provider DirecTV continues.

As of September 1, Disney’s channels became unavailable to DirecTV customers when their contract expired.

In response, DirecTV lodged a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission on Saturday, claiming that Disney is negotiating in bad faith.

A part of the complaint, which was reviewed by YSL News, states, “DirecTV and Disney have been stuck at a standstill for over a week. Millions of viewers have already missed several early college football games and are likely to miss the first Monday Night Football game.”

Disney refuted these claims even before the formal complaint was submitted, stating that, “We believe a just and adaptable agreement can be achieved that benefits all parties involved, particularly the consumer,” in a statement provided to YSL News on September 4.

The entertainment company added it is actively working to “negotiate with DirecTV to restore our content access as soon as possible,” based on a separate statement sent to YSL News on Monday.

This ongoing negotiation issue has already led to college football fans missing the last two games of Week 1 and all games from Week 2 aired on Disney channels.

What Week 3 College Football Games Will Air on Disney-Owned Channels?

Disney-owned channels are planning to broadcast 19 college football games this weekend.

Highlights include a matchup between the Arizona State Sun Devils and Texas State Bobcats on Thursday evening, followed by No. 24 Boston College visiting No. 6 Missouri on Saturday afternoon and No. 1 Georgia facing off against Kentucky in the Saturday evening slot.
