A recent debate over visas for technology workers has highlighted divisions within the Republican Party regarding immigration policies.
Steve Bannon, who previously served as chief strategist for Donald Trump, criticized the H-1B visa program, calling it a “total and complete scam.” This view resonated with many Trump supporters as well as with Bernie Sanders, the progressive Senator from Vermont.
The H-1B visa program aims to assist American businesses in hiring skilled workers from abroad. A key question being asked is whether this visa program takes jobs away from American workers.
Inflation Increased in December
Inflation rose for the third consecutive month in December, driven by higher food and energy prices, reports Paul Davidson, reaching its highest level in five months and indicating that the positive trend of slowing prices seen last spring and summer has come to a halt.
However, a key measure of price increases showed some easing, suggesting that inflation might start to decline again in the first half of 2025.
Biden Greenlights Final Wave of Loan Forgiveness
The Biden administration has approved its final significant round of student loan forgiveness, authorizing $4.5 billion for 261,000 borrowers, according to Zachary Schermele.
Interestingly, this round of assistance targeted individuals from a particular university.
