Los Angeles Dodgers put outfielder Jason Heyward on assignment

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers officially designated outfielder Jason Heyward, who has been in the league for 15 years, for assignment.

The 35-year-old former All-Star is currently hitting .208 with six home runs and 28 RBIs over 63 games this season.

In his career, Heyward has a batting average of .257, along with 180 home runs and 709 RBIs across 1,766 games played with the Atlanta Braves (2010-14), St. Louis Cardinals (2015), Chicago Cubs (2017-22), and the Dodgers.

Atlanta selected Heyward with the 14th pick in the first round of the 2007 draft, and he became a National League All-Star in his rookie year of 2010. He is also a five-time Gold Glove Award winner for his defensive skills in right field (2012, 2014-17).

This year, Heyward is on a one-year contract worth $9 million and has accumulated over $210 million throughout his professional career.

To take his place on the roster, the Dodgers activated infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor from the 10-day injured list after he was sidelined since July 24 due to a right groin strain.

This season, Taylor, who is 33, is batting .167 with three homers and 15 RBIs over 64 games played for the Dodgers.
