‘Holiday Touchdown’: Everything About Donna Kelce’s ‘Love You Mommy!’ Jersey From Travis
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Donna Kelce’s emergence into the spotlight is a celebration in itself. As the mother of two Super Bowl champions — Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Jason Kelce, former center for the Philadelphia Eagles — she has made her mark this season by appearing in two Hallmark holiday movies. In a recent chat with YSL News, she shared that she felt no nerves about acting.
“At my age, there’s no reason to be nervous anymore,” said 72-year-old Kelce during Friday’s Chiefs game. “People will accept you as you are, or they won’t. I hear comments like, ‘You’re too old’ or ‘You’re too this,’ but honestly, who cares? Just go enjoy yourself. Reinvent yourself. Don’t let anyone’s opinion matter.”
The film “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” premieres Saturday as part of Hallmark’s Christmas Experience event, airing at 8 ET/PT. The festive celebration at Crown Center Square in Kansas City will run weekends through December 22.
In addition, Donna Kelce was featured in “Christmas on Call,” which premiered on November 22. She presented a natural presence while wearing an Eagles jersey with Jason’s number, encouraging patrons of her cheesesteak shop, played by stars Sara Canning and Ser’Darius Blain, by saying, “Go Birds!”
In “Holiday Touchdown,” Derrick (played by Tyler Hynes), who works in fan engagement for the Chiefs, finds himself drawn to Alana (Hunter King), a young woman whose family is vying for the title of fan of the year. Much like other sports supporters, Alana’s family believes in a superstition: someone in their house must wear a specific knit hat on Christmas Day to ensure the team’s success.
Kelce assumes the role of the manager at Alana’s family restaurant, famous for its mouthwatering Kansas City barbecue. fittingly, she donned a Chiefs jersey in this role, which was personalized with a heartfelt message from her son. Travis signed the jersey with the words, “Love you Mommy!”
“I’ve had this jersey for ages,” Kelce remarked on Friday while wearing the same one featured in the film. “Travis signed it for me years ago when he first joined the league. (The Chiefs picked Travis during the 2013 NFL Draft.) I wear it every game.”
“It’s starting to wear out,” she continued, “but this jersey holds a special place for me, as it’s my only real superstition.” Kelce also shared she carries a bracelet from her late mother, which she treasures. “My mom passed away a couple of years ago, and I keep this with me. She had one bead for the Chiefs and another for the Eagles, and I feel her presence. So I always have this, along with my jersey.”
Tyler Hynes commended Kelce for adapting to acting so seamlessly during an interview aboard Hallmark’s inaugural Christmas cruise in early November.
“When I first talked to her, I thought, ‘I can’t imagine my mom in this situation,’” Hynes recalled. “She was walking into a room packed with executives and actors we admire, like Ed Begley Jr. and Diedrich Bader. And she was being asked to deliver lines in a completely new environment. My mom would be lost, yet there she stood, diving right in.”
Kelce mentioned she didn’t ask either Travis or Jason for acting tips. “You just give it your best shot and hope for the best,” she remarked.
However, her calm demeanor doesn’t mean she’s eager to take on more acting roles right away. “I think I’ll take a breather,” she said. “Some people might feel they’ve seen enough of the Kelces, so I’m going to tone it down a bit.”
