Driver Taken into Custody After Colliding with Abilene Christian Football Team Bus Following Texas Tech Showdown

Individual detained following collision with Abilene Christian football bus after Texas Tech match

A man has been arrested and charged with DWI after he crashed into the bus of the Abilene Christian University football team, resulting in injuries to four individuals on Saturday night.

As reported by the police in Lubbock, Texas, at 11:33 p.m., officers were directing traffic as the ACU bus was departing Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock after their game against Texas Tech.

At that moment, a vehicle operated by 19-year-old Parker Young ignored traffic signals and struck the bus, forcing it into another vehicle in the left turn lane.

Police reported that four people from the bus were taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. An official statement from ACU football shared via social media confirmed that among the injured were one student, two coaches, and the bus driver.

“We appreciate Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt, their team physician, Dr. Michael Phy, and all first responders for their help,” the statement mentioned.

Young was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he faces DWI charges and is waiting for his bond to be established, according to records from LCDC.

In the early hours of Sunday, Texas Tech Athletics shared their thoughts on the incident:

“The thoughts and prayers of Red Raider Nation are with our friends at ACU and those affected by the accident. Our administration has been in continuous communication with ACU’s staff since their departure and will provide any assistance necessary.”
