Elon Musk claims ‘SNL’ is ‘furious’ over Trump’s win while criticizing Dana Carvey’s impression
Is imitation truly flattering? It seems not for Elon Musk, especially when it concerns “Saturday Night Live.”
The CEO of Tesla, who previously hosted “SNL” in 2021, took to social media to criticize the show after Dana Carvey performed an impression of him.
Musk expressed, “SNL has been slowly declining for years as they become more out of touch with reality,” linking this to a clip from the recent segment.
He continued, “Their desperate attempt to manipulate equal airtime rules to support Kamala before the election only worsened her campaign,” referring to Vice President Kamala Harris’ guest spot on the show before the upcoming election.
Following Harris’ appearance, NBC notified the Federal Communications Commission and stated they would offer Republican nominee Donald Trump equal time. The former president subsequently addressed viewers during a NASCAR Cup playoff race broadcasted on the network the next day.
In another post on X, Musk criticized Carvey’s performance, stating, “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey.” He added that “they’re so angry that” Trump won the election and agreed with a follower who claimed that more people viewed the sketch on X than on “SNL.”
During the cold open of the November 9 episode, the “SNL” cast humorously claimed to have always supported Trump to avoid being on his enemies list when he begins a potential second term.
As the sketch wrapped up, Kenan Thompson sarcastically remarked that in a worst-case scenario, “We can all venture to Mars with the other man that we admire and trust,” referring to Musk.
Carvey then appeared as Musk, wearing a black “Make America Great Again” hat. He energetically jumped on stage and raised his fists, proclaiming, “Now I run the country. America will be like one of my rockets: super-cool and enjoyable, but there’s a small chance it could explode and everyone perishes.”
Musk previously hosted “SNL” in 2021, a choice that was met with some criticism. NPR’s Eric Deggans noted at the time that the episode was only “mediocre” and expressed disappointment that creator Lorne Michaels allowed a controversial public figure to enhance his image by hosting, resulting in an episode that did not meet the expectations created.
Musk has previously commented on X that “SNL” has “become overly woke” and is “rarely funny anymore.”
The SpaceX founder wasn’t the first person this season to criticize a sketch that made fun of them on “SNL.”
In October, Liam Gallagher took issue with the show for a “Weekend Update” segment featuring his character, played by Sarah Sherman, arguing with his brother Noel (James Austin Johnson). On X, Gallagher questioned if “they (are) comedians” and labeled Sherman’s impression of him as “painful.”
