‘Emily in Paris’ Set for Season 5 Comeback, But Lily Collins Reveals Her Love for Rome

‘Emily in Paris’ is coming back for Season 5, but Lily Collins mentions ‘there’s no place like Rome’

Warning: Spoilers for Season 4 ahead.

Surprise! Emily is back—well, she will be soon, as Season 5 of “Emily in Paris” is set to air on Netflix.

On Monday, Netflix officially confirmed that the beloved romantic comedy, “Emily in Paris,” will have a fifth season.

In the announcement video, Lily Collins, who portrays Emily, states, “There’s no place like Rome!”

Darren Star, the series creator, shared with Netflix’s Tudum that the team was “thrilled by the fantastic reaction” to Season 4 and is “eager to return for a fifth season to follow Emily’s journey in both Rome and Paris!”

In the finale of Season 4, Emily relocates temporarily to Rome to establish an office for Agence Grateau while spending time with her charming new boyfriend, Marcello (played by Eugenio Franceschini).

Is Emily making Rome her permanent home?

But does this signify that Emily is moving to Rome for good? The answer is no.

Star explained to Tudum, “Emily will have a presence in Rome. This doesn’t mean she won’t be in Paris; rather, she will be balancing her time between the two cities.”

The decision to have Emily spend time in Italy, according to the creator, is to “keep the audience guessing by taking them to unexpected locations,” ultimately demonstrating the series’ capacity to expand its scope.

In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Star emphasized that while the series will feature scenes in Rome, Paris is not being abandoned.

“We’ll spend some time in Rome, but she isn’t changing her Instagram handle to ‘Emily in Rome,’” Star remarked. “…She can split her time between both cities.”

Regarding Emily’s new romantic interest, Star indicated that Season 5 will delve deeper into Emily’s relationship with Marcello Muratori.

“They have genuine chemistry and a true romantic connection. Expect to see that develop in the next season,” he mentioned.

Star had previously told THR that he wanted to introduce Marcello as a fresh new chapter for the character after all the turmoil with Gabriel.

“I aimed to introduce a new love interest for Emily that would signify a clean slate after everything with Gabriel,” Star explained to the outlet. “Marcello arrives in Emily’s life unexpectedly, leading to a myriad of possibilities: a new location, new culture, new adventures.”

Collins expressed her enthusiasm about the developments between Emily and Marcello.

“Marcello represents a different type of adventure that we want for Emily because we aim for her to achieve a healthier work/life balance,” Collins shared with Tudum. “We want to see her genuinely happy and thriving, not just in vacation mode, and he arrives just at the right moment.”

As for Gabriel, viewers will have to wait to see how he navigates the consequences of his decisions, according to Collins.

With the confirmation of a new season for “Emily in Paris,” there’s much excitement regarding what Season 5 will bring, including updates on the cast and its anticipated release date.

Is ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 happening?

Absolutely! Netflix confirmed on Monday that “Emily in Paris” has been officially renewed for a fifth season.

While Netflix had been quiet about a possible new season and a representative indicated there was no information available when YSL News inquired last week, the expectation for Season 5 was strong. At the amfAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, a walk-on role for the upcoming season was auctioned off, with Variety reporting that presenters Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson stated production for Season 5 was expected to kick off around mid-2025. The auction for the walk-on role, facilitated by Star, reportedly raised approximately $277,000 (€250,000).

“The filming will happen in Paris, depending on whether Season 5 gets picked up,” the proposal stated.

When will ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 be available?

Netflix has not shared any updates regarding the release date for Season 5.

The inaugural season of “Emily in Paris” debuted in October 2020, followed by the second season in December 2021. The third season premiered in December 2022, and the latest Season 4 was released on Netflix in August 2024 with the first five episodes. The remaining part of Season 4 was available starting September 12.
