This year, Toyota introduces a stylish midsize hybrid SUV to fill the gap left by a model that will be phased out. Additionally, a beloved off-roading vehicle finally receives a much-needed update. Several new trim levels are being added to the lineup, including an exciting Nightshade model. Let’s explore the latest updates for all 2025 Toyota SUVs.

2025 Toyota Corolla Cross: Recent Updates

Since the Corolla Cross was launched in 2022, it is expected to undergo a midcycle update soon. The timing of this update is still uncertain. The previous model year introduced several enhancements including a standard roof rack, HomeLink garage door opener integrated into the rearview mirror, carpeted floormats, and the new Nightshade Edition. The 2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid SE and XSE models also received upgraded wireless charging features.

The plug-in hybrid model’s name has been simplified to RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), dropping the “Prime” designation. The distinct blue accents on Toyota badges for hybrid models have also been eliminated.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Toyota introduces a special edition Highlander that features unique body enhancements and badges, available in colors like Heavy Metal or Wind Chill Pearl. The Heavy Metal color is now also an option for XLE, Limited, and Platinum trims of both gas and hybrid models. All 2025 Highlander Hybrids will come with standard all-wheel drive.

The sporty Highlander XSE AWD is now designed to default to Sport mode and is available in a Cement color. Certain configurations are being discontinued, such as gas versions of the XSE and Platinum, and hybrid LE and LE Nightshade trims. The Moondust exterior and Harvest Beige interior options have also been retired.

  1. Smart interior design
  2. Fuel-efficient hybrid options
  3. Large touchscreen available

Disadvantages

2025 Toyota 4Runner: Recent Updates

After 15 years of the same generation, the 4Runner has finally been redesigned. The new model is built on the same global truck platform as the refreshed Tacoma and features many of its appealing interior characteristics. The exterior has also been significantly updated, now offering two inline-four powertrains including a more fuel-efficient hybrid option.

As expected, the updated model includes multiple capable trim levels, such as TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, and the new Trailhunter for overlanding. Off-road enhancements feature various traction control systems, upgraded suspension, exterior lighting options, and an available stabilizer bar disconnect feature. Tech advancements include a 14.0-inch touchscreen and a comprehensive update of Toyota Safety Sense. Plus, it maintains its signature roll-down rear window. We’re eager to experience the improvements in this iconic SUV.

Toyota introduces an affordable entry-level LE trim to the Grand Highlander’s gas and hybrid ranges. Additionally, it now features its own Nightshade Edition based on the Limited model. All Grand Highlanders with the seven-seat configuration will come equipped with a standard removable second-row center console.

The other updates involve exterior color options, including the addition of Cement for the Nightshade and Hybrid Max models. The Heavy Metal premium color is now available for Limited (excluding Nightshade) and Hybrid Max trims. 2025 Toyota Crown Signia: What’s New

The Crown Signia serves as a modern replacement for the Venza, and we got a glimpse of it when its sedan version launched last year. Both models share a similar elevated platform, but unlike the sedan which offers two engine choices, the new SUV is only equipped with Crown’s basic powertrain. This setup features a 2.5-liter inline-four engine paired with front and rear electric motors for all-wheel drive (AWD) and a CVT automatic transmission. In the Signia, this hybrid system generates 243 hp—7 hp more than the sedan with the same engine—while also achieving commendable fuel efficiency of 39/37 mpg in city/highway driving. The driving feel prioritizes comfort, yet the crossover maintains a bit of excitement.

Similar to the car version, the Crown Signia SUV has a premium feel. Standard amenities include a 12.3-inch digital gauge and infotainment displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger for phones, hands-free liftgate, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and Toyota Safety Sense—the latest suite of safety features. Additional options include ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an 11-speaker JBL sound system, and a digital rearview mirror. The cargo space of the Signia is comparably positioned between the Corolla Cross and the RAV4.

2025 Toyota Crown Signia Pros and Cons

Pros

  1. Attractive wagon-like design
  2. Efficient fuel consumption
  3. Roomy rear seating area

Cons

  1. Unusual noise at full throttle
  2. Caution needed when entering
  3. Limited cargo space

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser: What’s New

After a couple of years on hiatus, the Land Cruiser premium off-roader made its comeback in 2024. As a result, this new generation has very few alterations this year. A new monotone Heritage Blue paint option has been introduced, and the First Edition trim has been dropped from the lineup.

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Pros and Cons

Pros

  1. Plentiful trail-equipped features
  2. Two unique front-end designs
  3. Advanced technology and safety features

Cons

  1. No option for a third-row seat
  2. Cabin experiences noticeable tire noise
  3. Less impressive than the Lexus GX?

2025 Toyota Sequoia: What’s New

For 2025, the largest SUV from Toyota introduces a new 1794 trim. This model, along with the Platinum and Capstone versions, now comes standard with massaging front seats. Additionally, the Tow Tech package has been updated to include a trailer camera and antenna with Wi-Fi capability. There are also two color updates: the TRD Pro now comes in a new Mudbath hue, while Solar Octane has been removed from the lineup.

2025 Toyota Sequoia Pros and Cons

Pros

  1. Effective hybrid engine
  2. Robust truck-like appearance
  3. Easy access to the third row

Cons

  1. Powertrain lacks responsiveness
  2. Ride can be uncomfortable on paved roads
  3. Interior may not feel sufficiently premium

Toyota Venza: Discontinued

Once again, we say goodbye to the Toyota Venza. This midsize SUV was first introduced from 2009 to 2017 as a gasoline option, featuring either an inline-four or V-6 engine. The nameplate resurfaced in 2021 as a hybrid-only crossover, catering to the rising demand for electric vehicles. Both versions of the Venza were known for their stylish designs, with the later model positioned as a more luxurious choice over the RAV4, yet both struggled with limited cargo capacity. While the retirement of the Venza could be seen as disappointing, especially with the release of the more enticing Crown Signia as its successor, it is what it is.
