Exxon Mobil to cut nearly 400 jobs in Texas following merger with Pioneer Natural
Exxon Mobil will be dismissing nearly 400 workers in Texas after merging with Pioneer Natural Resources, another oil and gas firm.
The Texas Workforce Commission, the state agency that manages workforce development programs, announced this in a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice.
WARN notices inform about mass layoffs as per the U.S. Department of Labor guidelines.
The notice specifies that 397 workers across five locations in Big Lake, Irving, and Midland, Texas will be affected. Layoffs will be implemented in phases over the next two years, specifically between December 31 and May 2026.
The primary impact will be at an office situated on Hidden Ridge in Irving, approximately 16 miles northwest of Dallas.
In response to inquiries regarding the layoffs, Exxon Mobil stated to YSL News on Friday that affected employees were presented with “transition roles,” though some declined the offers.
“Our employment approach remains unchanged,” the company emphasized in the statement. “The success of the merger relies significantly on retaining the skilled workforce from Pioneer, and over 1,900 Pioneer staff members were offered positions as part of the merger.”
