Selenoproteins: The Key to Unlocking Eternal Youth?

Researchers find that certain antioxidant enzymes, called selenoproteins, significantly contribute to fighting cell aging. The team used a gene knockout mouse model to help them study the effects of disrupting selenoprotein synthesis. This knockout negatively impacted hematopoietic stem cells and B cell-lineage immune cells, which was driven by the lack of selenoprotein-mediated fighting of lipid

FBI Employees Mandated to Disclose Involvement in Jan. 6 Investigations by Upcoming Monday

FBI Personnel Required to Disclose Their Involvement in Jan. 6 Investigations by Monday

WASHINGTON — On Sunday, FBI personnel were instructed to complete a comprehensive questionnaire detailing their involvement in criminal investigations linked to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of then-President Donald Trump, raising concerns among staff about potential job losses within the agency.

Chad Yarbrough, the assistant director of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI headquarters, mentioned in an email, which was reviewed by Reuters, “I understand that many of us who have received this questionnaire have numerous questions and worries, and I’m working diligently to address these.”

According to the memo obtained by Reuters, employees are required to disclose their job titles, their specific roles in the January 6 investigations, and whether they had supervisory positions in those inquiries. Yarbrough noted that responses are expected by 3 p.m. ET on Monday.

On Friday, Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove dismissed eight senior FBI officials from headquarters, along with directors from the Miami and Washington, D.C. field offices.

Bove’s memo from Friday also requested that the FBI provide him by Tuesday at noon ET with a list of all employees who have engaged in January 6 cases, along with those who were involved in a prior criminal case against leaders of the militant Hamas group, tied to the Gaza conflict.

Last week, Bove terminated over a dozen career prosecutors from the Justice Department who had worked on two now-terminated criminal cases initiated by Special Counsel Jack Smith concerning Trump, which involved efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and the handling of classified documents.

An FBI spokesperson chose not to comment on the questionnaire.

Critics, including Democrats, have accused Trump’s team of orchestrating a purge of FBI and Justice Department officials involved in the criminal proceedings against Trump and the January 6 rioters.

On his first day back in office on January 20, Trump commuted the sentences of 14 individuals associated with the Capitol incident and pardoned others, including those who violently confronted law enforcement.

Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll informed staff in an email on Friday about the order from Bove, stating that the request “includes thousands of employees nationwide who have contributed to these investigative initiatives.”

Driscoll mentioned, “I am one of those employees, as is Acting Deputy Director (Robert) Kissane.”

Despite reports of other terminations within the agency, emails viewed by Reuters from the FBI Agents Association and James Dennehy, the assistant FBI director overseeing the New York office, indicated that no one else had been requested to resign.

Nonetheless, some employees began clearing out their desks on Friday out of fear they might face similar fates, according to an email from the FBI Agents Association obtained by Reuters.

Dennehy stated in an email, “We currently find ourselves in a battle, with dedicated individuals being let go from the FBI and others under scrutiny because they performed their duties as mandated by law and FBI policy.” He expressed appreciation for Driscoll and Kissane for “standing up for this organization.”

Dennehy reassured that aside from the limited individuals identified in Bove’s memo, “NO ONE has been informed about any removals at this time.”
