Police link Luigi Mangione to CEO murder with fingerprints and gun evidence
Authorities have confirmed that fingerprints and shell casings found at the site of the shooting that killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson match those of the suspect accused of committing the crime, officials revealed.
At a public safety news briefing on Wednesday, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the shell casings were linked to a firearm that was seized in Pennsylvania during the investigation and the arrest of the suspect, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione.
Commissioner Tisch also mentioned that Mangione’s fingerprints were found on a water bottle and a protein bar wrapper located near the shooting scene outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
This new evidence emerges just a day after Mangione’s attorney, Thomas Dickey, announced that his client plans to contest his extradition to New York and intends to plead not guilty to the charges against him, which include second-degree murder as filed by prosecutors in Manhattan.
“We will contest this case according to the law and the constitutional rights my client holds,” Thomas told journalists.
Dickey has not yet provided a response to YSL News’s request for additional comments.
Thompson was shot unexpectedly from behind on December 4, sustaining wounds to his leg and chest as he made his way toward a Hilton hotel where he was scheduled to deliver a speech at an annual investor forum.
Mangione was apprehended on Monday at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a patron recognized him from images released by the NYPD showing the alleged shooter.
