A Walmart employee who was called into work on her day off became a millionaire after purchasing a lottery ticket from a California Lottery vending machine.

The employee, Rebeca Gonzalez, works at a Walmart in Los Angeles County and received a last-minute request to come in. She was initially reluctant, as noted in a news release from the California Lottery on Tuesday.

“It was Labor Day, and they only required my help for three hours,” Gonzalez told the lottery. “I really wanted to be home with my family since we had planned a barbecue.”

She had intended to buy a ticket for the Single Double Triple Scratchers game but lost track of time during her brief work shift.

‘I Couldn’t Believe What Happened’

On her way home that evening, she passed the California Lottery machine and decided to spend $10 on a ticket—only to discover later that she had won the top prize of $1 million.

“I was in disbelief,” she expressed regarding her incredible fortune.

Walmart will also receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to lottery officials.

With her newfound wealth, Gonzalez plans to eliminate her debts and purchase a new home with her husband, according to the lottery.

A representative from the California Lottery indicated that every Walmart Supercenter in California—totaling 212 locations—has these lottery machines, as do some local neighborhood markets.

Despite her windfall, Gonzalez intends to keep her job at Walmart.

“I’ve only shared the news with one person at work—my manager, who asked me to stay late on a holiday,” Gonzalez revealed to the lottery officials. “He was shocked!”

How to Play the Single Double Triple Scratchers Game

When participating in the Single Double Triple Scratchers game, players can:

• Win the game’s prize by matching any of the game numbers with any of the six winning numbers.
• Win double the prize by matching two game numbers from the same game with any of the winning numbers.
• Win three times the prize by matching all three game numbers from the same game with any of the winning numbers.

If players end up with non-winning tickets, they still have a chance to win by submitting them into the second chance game for an additional opportunity to win cash in a weekly draw, according to lottery officials.
