Guy Gansert of ‘Golden Bachelorette’ Responds to Ex-Wife’s Restraining Order Request

Guy Gansert from ‘Golden Bachelorette’ addresses ex-wife’s restraining order claim

Guy Gansert, a contestant on “The Golden Bachelorette,” has spoken out following the revelation of a restraining order request made by his ex-wife.

According to a report from The Sun on Wednesday, Gansert, a 66-year-old emergency room physician from Reno, Nevada, was involved in a temporary restraining order request in 2021, shortly after he and his ex-wife, Heidi Seevers O’Gara, finalized their divorce.

Court documents obtained by YSL News reveal that in October 2021, O’Gara applied for a domestic violence protection order in Nevada family court. Just three weeks later, she requested to retract the application, resulting in the judge denying her request for a temporary restraining order.

In a Thursday Instagram post, Gansert stated, “I would like to address some articles regarding a personal situation from 2021. It was an unfortunate circumstance during a very stressful period for both my former spouse and me, which was ultimately resolved when she voluntarily withdrew her request for a protective order. We were able to create a resolution that was satisfactory for both of us.”

Gansert added, “My ex-wife and I recently requested the court to seal her application for the protective order to protect our family’s privacy. However, I understand that being in the public spotlight comes with certain responsibilities. We were married for 34 years and together raised four wonderful children whom we love dearly. They are my greatest pride. The divorce was extraordinarily tough for me, bringing me to a very low point and causing me to act in a way that does not reflect my true self.”

He concluded his post saying, “The past few years have given me the opportunity to deeply evaluate myself, and I strive to continue my personal growth. I am immensely thankful to The Golden Bachelorette, Bachelor Nation, and my family, who have provided immense support during my most challenging times. I am forever appreciative of them.”

A source familiar with the situation who wished to remain anonymous shared that the production team of “The Golden Bachelorette” learned about the temporary protective order application during their vetting process. They confirmed that the order was never put in place since O’Gara voluntarily dismissed it shortly after it was filed.

“As a result, he was allowed to move forward with the casting process.”

Gansert and ex-wife ‘found a mutual agreement’ in divorce, eliminating need for restraining order

The former couple submitted a joint motion to seal their case records on September 30, emphasizing the potential risks of exposing their personal information and the potential embarrassment or harassment for their families.

Gansert is recognized as a “successful and respected medical doctor in Reno, Nevada,” while O’Gara is a retired prominent politician, having served as the Republican state Senate minority leader in Nevada.

The motion filed by the parties mentioned, “Dr. Gansert’s participation in a nationally broadcast television show may draw more attention to this matter than anticipated. Therefore, both parties wish for the contents of the TPO to be sealed to protect their families from unwanted public scrutiny,” the documents state.

The motion also clarified that regarding O’Gara’s application from October 12, 2021, “The Court did not affirm the claims in the TPO application as factual. Ms. O’Gara voluntarily dismissed her application, and both parties have come to a mutual understanding regarding their relationship. Furthermore, they have included this understanding in their confidential divorce proceedings.”

The court declined the motion on October 4, stating that it “does not provide compelling legal grounds to support the requested relief.”

Restraining order request claimed Gansert was ‘unstable’

In her handwritten application from October 2021, O’Gara described her need for protection from Gansert for a period of 45 days.

She recounted an incident where Gansert allegedly “put something under my rear driver’s tire” while she was at a gym with her sister-in-law. Upon confronting him, she stated, “he mimicked shooting me with his finger.” She characterized him as “extremely unstable” and mentioned that he was allegedly on sleep medication.

O’Gara mentioned this incident as the first time he physically threatened her after months of receiving “numerous text messages” from him.

‘Bachelor’ franchise faces ongoing issues with contestants’ alleged past misconduct

This isn’t the first instance of the first season of “Golden Bachelorette” encountering issues concerning a contestant’s prior alleged misbehavior. In late September, it came to light that a woman had requested a temporary restraining order against Gil Ramirez. Ramirez, who exited the show after not being given a rose by Vassos in Wednesday’s episode, had this restraining order petition filed in June, as per court documents acquired by YSL News last month.

The petition for a temporary restraining order claimed that Ramirez made “repeated unwanted contact” with the woman, her family, and her friends. However, the court dismissed this request in late July because of “lack of prosecution.”

An insider familiar with the matter, who was not allowed to speak publicly, informed YSL News that the restraining order was requested after the production had conducted a “thorough background investigation” and before filming commenced. Although the show intended to reduce Ramirez’s screen time, he still made brief appearances in later episodes and received a group date rose in the previous week.

The issues regarding alleged misconduct among the “Golden” contestants coincided with a “Bachelorette” season that ended chaotically, as the lead, Jenn Tran’s relationship with her final pick, Devin Strader, fell apart before the finale aired.

Shortly after the season concluded, it was disclosed that in 2017, a temporary restraining order against Strader was granted to his former girlfriend, although Strader has denied any claims of abusive behavior. According to court documents reviewed by YSL News, he had entered a guilty plea for charges of trespassing and simple criminal damage to property.
