Halle Berry Credits Pierce Brosnan for Rebuilding Her ‘Faith in Men’ During Bond Film ‘Die Another Day’
Halle Berry’s admiration for Pierce Brosnan remains strong.
During a recent conversation with WIRED, the 58-year-old Oscar winner reminisced about her time filming “Die Another Day” alongside Brosnan, showering him with praise.
“He will always be my Bond,” Berry expressed. “Without a doubt. I’m a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan. He renewed my faith in men while we were filming. I can’t think of anyone more of a true gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”
In the 2002 film, Berry portrayed Jinx, a character who works as an NSA agent. This was Brosnan’s fourth and last appearance as Bond, following “GoldenEye,” “Tomorrow Never Dies,” and “The World Is Not Enough.”
“Die Another Day” premiered the same year Berry won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in “Monster’s Ball.” Daniel Craig took over the Bond role later in 2006 with “Casino Royale.”
Halle Berry Considers Herself ‘Part of Cinematic History’ After Her James Bond Role
In her conversation with WIRED, Berry clarified that while being in a Bond film wasn’t something she actively sought, she has always loved the franchise and now feels a sense of belonging to cinematic history.
“Those films are legendary,” she noted. “They will always be a significant part of our history, and I’m incredibly proud to have been involved in one, especially with Pierce.”
There were talks of creating a spinoff centered on her character, but it never materialized, a disappointment Berry shared with Variety.
“It was a bit ahead of its time,” she remarked. “At that point, no one was willing to invest in a Black female action star. They were uncertain about its worth. That’s where we stood back then.”
Halle Berry’s Admiration for Pierce Brosnan is Not New
The “X-Men” actress previously shared on “The Tonight Show” in 2020 how Brosnan came to her rescue by performing the Heimlich maneuver when she unexpectedly choked on a fig while filming “Die Another Day.”
“I was meant to be alluring and seducing him with a fig, but then I ended up choking!” she laughed. “He had to spring into action and do the Heimlich. Not exactly alluring.”
“He was supportive when it mattered,” she continued. “He will always hold a special place in my heart.”
In an interview with Sky News, Berry also named Brosnan as one of her top former co-stars, along with Penélope Cruz and Billy Bob Thornton.
“He was incredibly respectful, just like Pierce Brosnan,” she emphasized. “He will always be my Bond.”
