Halsey reveals recent hospitalization due to a seizure: ‘It was terrifying’
This week, Halsey was admitted to the hospital after experiencing a seizure.
After fans expressed concern over a video posted on Instagram featuring Halsey and partner Avan Jogia in the hospital, the “Without Me” artist shared a light-hearted update: “Happy Late Bi Visibility Day. I’m celebrating this year by almost dying with a man by my side (just kidding, legal reasons).”
On Thursday morning, Halsey took to X (formerly Twitter) to update fans about their recovery, saying: “I’m back home after a few days, so that’s a win!” They later tweeted, “I had a seizure! It was very scary! Definitely not something I’d recommend!”
Halsey has been transparent about their ongoing health struggles, having multiple chronic health issues. In a May Instagram post, they mentioned: “I feel like an old lady. I’ve told myself I have two more years to be unwell. At 30, I plan for a fresh start, looking fabulous and full of energy, ready to revisit my twenties in my thirties.”
Halsey is set to celebrate their 30th birthday this Sunday.
Halsey’s diagnoses: lupus and lymphoproliferative disorder explained
In a June announcement, Halsey disclosed that they were diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022.
Lupus is a long-lasting autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own healthy cells, causing inflammation that can impact the skin, joints, heart, lungs, kidneys, blood, and brain, according to the National Institutes of Health.
On the other hand, T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders are uncommon types of tumors that can lead to skin lesions and various organ masses, leukemia, or other health issues, as per the National Library of Medicine.
Halsey mentioned that both conditions are currently under management or in remission, and that they are likely to persist throughout their life.
They elaborated: “It took some time, but I’ve gotten everything managed with the support of wonderful doctors. After two years, I’m feeling better and am incredibly thankful for music to lean on.”
The singer has also been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).
