Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Open Up About ‘Rust’ Shooting in TLC Reality Show Trailer
Hilaria and Alec Baldwin are sharing their feelings about the tragic “Rust” shooting in a heartfelt trailer for their upcoming TLC reality series.
On Monday, the network unveiled a sneak peek of “The Baldwins,” which chronicles the adventures of the couple and their seven children. The trailer starts off with a humorous tone, showcasing the lively chaos of managing “seven children (and) six animals.”
However, the mood shifts dramatically as it addresses the incident that occurred during the filming of “Rust.” A firearm that Alec Baldwin was handling discharged in 2021, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
“A son lost his mother in the most unimaginable tragedy,” Hilaria Baldwin expresses in the trailer while aerial views of the “Rust” set are displayed. “This is something we will never forget, and we are trying to parent through it.”
The trailer features Alec Baldwin visibly emotional during an interview, presumably reflecting on the shooting.
In another moment, Alec tells Hilaria, whom he wed in 2012, “Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I can’t imagine where I’d be without you and these kids.”
In addition to his seven children with Hilaria Baldwin, Alec Baldwin also has a daughter, Ireland Baldwin, 29, from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
TLC has stated that “The Baldwins” will combine “the joys and challenges of family life, with the humor and hurdles that arise while raising a large family in the spotlight.” Expect “honest discussions about mental health” throughout the series.
The show will follow the couple as they “manage the emotional intricacies of the situation” amidst “uncertainty” as Alec Baldwin prepares for a criminal trial.
“This series offers a look into our family life — the ups, the downs, the chaos, and everything in between,” Alec and Hilaria Baldwin shared. “We hope our experiences and the love we share resonate with viewers. Filming has been a remarkable journey, and we are excited to partner with TLC in telling our story.”
Baldwin faced charges of involuntary manslaughter linked to Hutchins’ death, but the case was unexpectedly dismissed in 2024 due to claims that prosecutors and law enforcement had withheld evidence. Earlier this month, Baldwin accused the prosecutors of violating his civil rights and defaming him in a lawsuit he filed in Santa Fe County District Court.
The “30 Rock” star has consistently denied any responsibility for Hutchins’ death, insisting he did not pull the gun’s trigger. “Rust” made its debut at a film festival in Poland in November, but Baldwin indicated to Variety that he has no intention of watching the completed film.
During an episode on David Duchovny’s “Fail Better” podcast in December, Baldwin pledged to make a “successful effort” to “uncover the truth” about the incident, asserting, “The facts about what transpired have never been revealed.”
Baldwin also mentioned on the podcast that Hilaria “was in pain” and “suffered greatly” throughout the ordeal.
“The Baldwins” is set to premiere on February 23.
