Hoda Kotb Reflects on Motherhood with Emotion at Her 60th Birthday Celebration on ‘Today’
Monday’s “Today” show was a heartfelt tribute to Hoda Kotb’s big 6-0.
The beloved NBC morning show, along with the “Today with Hoda & Jenna” segment, honored the co-anchor’s special day featuring guest stars, touching messages, and live performances by her favorite musical acts.
The morning was filled with surprises and emotional moments. Sandra Bullock sent a mix of laughter and warmth in a video message for her “sweet friend,” Hoda, while popular bands Sugarland and Little Big Town came together to promote their upcoming tour. Jenna Bush Hager surprised Kotb with a painting of her and her daughters created by former President George W. Bush.
Hoda, who recently returned from covering the 2024 Olympics in Paris, celebrated her birthday on August 9.
While on stage at the Citi Concert Series with Hager, Kotb shared her journey of becoming a first-time mom in recent years, with her daughters Haley, age 7, and Hope, age 5, cheering for her from the audience.
“I clearly recall turning 50 and telling myself: ‘Your life is wonderful, be grateful for what you have and don’t ask for more. You’re deserving of just that,'” Kotb shared. “I often wondered if I was qualified to be a mother. One day, I decided it was alright to voice my feelings, to say out loud: ‘I wish to be a mom.’
“I expressed this at 50, thinking I was just speaking into the air, but in reality, I was sending it out to the universe. Then unexpectedly, things began to shift,” she continued.
“And lo and behold, during my 50s, I welcomed Haley Joy Kotb, who’s right there, and then came Hope Catherine Kotb, who’s also present. I learned that sometimes we feel like our good fortune has slipped away from us, but that’s not the case. They’re on their way.”
Hoda Kotb Assures That Blessings Will Arrive ‘Just on Time’
During Monday’s episode of “Today,” individuals touched by Kotb’s kindness over the years showed up to surprise her in the studio.
The special guests included Devon Still and his daughter Leah, a neuroblastoma survivor diagnosed at age 4; Bart Conley, who lost his wife Jill Brzezinski-Conley at 38 following a cancer battle in 2016; and Frank and Stacy Parrado, who learned about adopting daughter Addison from Kotb in 2018.
Kotb joyfully embraced each guest, as they recounted the positive influence she had during their tough times.
“This is your true legacy: the people who get to know you and love you,” Savannah Guthrie remarked.
<pLater, as the co-hosts raised a toast to Kotb alongside Sugarland and Little Big Town, the 60-year-old took a moment to inspire everyone.
“I just want to say, if you’re in your 40s, 50s, 60s, or older and you’re questioning, ‘When will my blessings arrive?’ They’re coming, my friends!” Kotb declared. “And when they do, they’ll show up just when you need them.”
