Celebrities Stand by LA Fire Victims: Halle Berry Gives Wardrobe, Jamie Lee Curtis Donates $1M

As individuals affected by the devastating series of wildfires in Los Angeles manage their recovery, stars from Hollywood are stepping up to help their community.

Since Tuesday, six different wildfires have broken out across LA, destroying entire neighborhoods and leaving a path of destruction. By Sunday, three of these fires were still burning.

With the Santa Ana winds intensifying on Sunday morning in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, forecasters predicted they would weaken later in the day, but return with greater strength on Sunday night through Wednesday, particularly peaking on Tuesday. Wind gusts could reach between 30 to 50 mph.

LA County Sheriff Robert Luna reported that 14 lives have been lost so far. He noted that official death counts may differ from the coroner’s records (the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported 16 fatalities as of Saturday night). Additionally, around 105,000 residents have been evacuated.

The entertainment industry is also facing the impact of the fires. Celebrities like Paris Hilton, James Woods, Cameron Mathison, Billy Crystal, and Tina Knowles have either lost their homes or are now displaced because of these wildfires. Major events in the industry, such as the Critics’ Choice Awards scheduled for Sunday, have been postponed or canceled.

In spite of these challenges brought on by the fires, many celebrities are actively participating in humanitarian initiatives.

From Halle Berry and Jamie Lee Curtis to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, here’s how these stars are providing help.

Halle Berry Gives Her ‘Entire Closet’ to Clothing Drive for Fire Victims

In a heartfelt Instagram video shared on Thursday, Berry revealed that she donated her “entire closet” to a clothing drive at Beverly Hills home goods store +Coop.

“I’m originally from Meadville, Pennsylvania, and there’s a saying from Margaret Mead: ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world,'” Berry expressed. “This is something we can do right now to assist families who have been displaced and urgently need the essentials!”

The “Catwoman” actress followed her former co-star Sharon Stone’s example, who has also been supporting the same cause. “Thank you @sharonstone for your leadership. Love you Lady ❤️,” Berry expressed further.

Jamie Lee Curtis to Contribute $1 Million for Recovery Support

Curtis shared on Thursday her commitment to donate $1 million to assist all those affected by this disaster, noting on Instagram that she is “in discussions with Governor (Gavin) Newsom, Mayor (Karen) Bass, and Senator (Adam) Schiff regarding where these funds will make the biggest difference.”

“While the fires are still raging, and with @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the responders working tirelessly to fight these fires and protect lives, my family and I have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to set up a support fund for our cherished city and state and its wonderful residents,” she stated.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Call for Support for LA Fire Victims

In light of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement on their official website this week urging people to support victims of this crisis.

Following their announcement, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan provided a list of organizations for those “feeling compelled to help.” They also reportedly welcomed friends and family members who have had to evacuate into their Montecito home, according to People magazine.

“If a friend, family member, or pet needs to evacuate, and you’re able to provide them a safe place to stay, please do so,” Harry and Meghan remarked. “Also, remember to check on elderly or disabled neighbors to see if they require assistance in evacuating.”

On Friday, Harry and Meghan were seen visiting the Pasadena Convention Center, where reports indicate they met with first responders and individuals affected by the Eaton Fire, as noted by ABC News and Fox 11.

Eva Longoria Commits $50K to Aid Essential Workers and Fire Victims

In an emotional Instagram clip on Saturday, Eva Longoria announced her pledge of $50,000 aimed at supporting “frontline essential workers, farm laborers, day laborers, and families suffering from these wildfires.”

The contribution is made in partnership with a Los Angeles organization called This is About Humanity, which focuses on issues concerning separated or reunited families and children at the border.

“LA is a strong community. People have been exceptionally cooperative, from Altadena and Pasadena to the Pacific Palisades,” Longoria mentioned. “The community is coming together in incredible ways, and it’s wonderful to witness.”

Latin Music Stars Fuerza Regida and Maná Support Fire Relief Efforts

In a statement shared on their Instagram page Saturday, the regional Mexican band Fuerza Regida revealed they have rented several hotel rooms to provide shelter for those displaced

“We have secured a hotel that can accommodate over 50 families, and additional space will be offered for those who need shelter,” the band announced. “Please understand that we are united with you and will keep providing support during this challenging time.”

In a similar vein, the Mexican pop group Maná posted on Instagram on Thursday that the Grammy-winning band intends to contribute an undisclosed sum to assist “those impacted by the fires.”

The band also provided its followers with a list of organizations dedicated to relief efforts.

“Los Angeles has always felt like family and a second home to Maná,” they expressed in Spanish. “(We) love you. We are here for you.”
