Home Shopping Network Recalls Over 300,000 Mini Smoke Alarms Due to Safety Concerns

Home Shopping Network Issues Recall of Over 300,000 Mini Smoke Alarms Due to Failures

The U.S. Consumer Product & Safety Commission has announced a recall of more than 300,000 mini smoke alarms sold by the Home Shopping Network due to potential failures that might prevent them from alerting users about a fire. This issue poses a serious risk of smoke inhalation or even death.

Three61, the company based in Florida that imported these smoke detectors, received reports of eight instances where the alarms did not activate when smoke was present. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries attributed to this issue.

Federal tests on the smoke detectors revealed that at least one unit failed to trigger an alarm even when exposed to specific smoke concentrations.

Here’s what you need to know.

Details on the Recalled Smoke Alarms

This recall affects approximately 328,000 white and silver plastic mini smoke alarms under the Samurai brand, which were sold from July 2020 to November 2024.

The commission advises anyone with an affected model to contact Three61 to receive a free replacement alarm.

“Your safety, along with your family’s, is our top priority,” stated Samurai in a press release. “We strongly encourage you to register below and take part in this recall.”

Identifying the Recalled Units

The affected smoke alarms were available from the Home Shopping Network between July 2020 and November 2024, priced between $40 and $50, depending on whether they were sold as single units, pairs, or triples. Each pack of smoke alarms came with lithium-ion batteries, adhesive stickers, screws, mounting plates, and an instruction manual.

The model number for the recalled units is SM1, which can be located on the packaging. The word “smoke” is printed on the front of the alarm beneath a button, while the phrase “installed on” is found on the back.

Instructions to Obtain a Free Replacement

To receive a free replacement from Three61, consumers need to mark the smoke alarm as “recalled” with a permanent marker and submit a photo of the marked device along with their contact details via the recall website. After receiving the photo, the company will swiftly send out a replacement alarm, although there may be a shipping fee.

Three61 is also reaching out directly to all known purchasers regarding this recall.
